Fathomless

Against the starry heavens
I sing your name now and again
Remembering the words on my tongue

I had to endure so much heartbreak
To get to you
Just when I thought the chase had ended
You turned and shoved the truth in my face

I know you'll never truly love me
That time can't heal wounds no one can see
I vowed never to love again
But where has that gotten me?

By now, you should understand
My passions are fathomless
Just knowing that you're safe then
I could rest for a day
But now, watching over you
An angel's tears can form the hardest rain

It was all a worthless fantasy
Etched into my mind
The idea that we could ever survive
Never vanished
As we live on

As long as you're alive
I'll never be forgotten
As long as I continue to keep my ceaseless vigil
You'll never disappear
And on falls the eternal snow

A feather laid in your hand
A million more scattered
A memory sealed in those very items
It's enough to remind you
That my love was sincere

I want you to know that when you're in pain
You're not the only one
That a year and a half ago
I suffered the heartbreak you are now

Pretty words should never be used
Unless the true meaning is understand
For in the hands of one as careless as I
They become useless

I regret ever saying "I love you"
Those three words should never be wasted
But without saying them, how can I express my feelings?
I promise myself time and time again
Never to put myself through that tormenting pain
Yet the heart is more powerful than the soul

And my feelings continue to be
Fathomless
