closer, closer, (there)

disclaimer: JKR still owns. I still
don't.
notes: Written for sioniann for the birthday ficlets. I
didn't use all of the prompt words so I won't mention them here. It
turned out quite ..angsty. And short. ('oo' separate sections of the fic because ffnet doesn't allow stars.)

When no one is watching, Ron holds Harry.
They close around each other, so near they're almost one. Ron's body paints Harry's with comfort, he's a human blanket of warmth, caring and friendship – all these things Harry didn't really know until Ron came along. Or if he knew them, they were far away and difficult to comprehend – utterly out of reach.
But Ron holds Harry and they just need this.
It's perfection in the moment that lasts a lifetime, or so Harry likes to imagine. It's the touch that doesn't leave his skin when Ron stops holding him. He'll need more of it again, at some point later on but right then, it's enough.
The best cure for sorrow, the best cure either of them know.

Whenever possible, Harry sleeps his nights with Ron. Their limbs tangled, fingers interwined, they try their best to get as close as possible to each other. Harry can't sleep properly in his own bed. He can't even sleep next to Ron. Ron has to be there, right there, he can't roll on the other side of the bed or anywhere else, he has to stay there.
Ron does. It's hot and uncomfortable half-under the sleeping Harry, but he stays there.

Eventually Harry wants to crawl under Ron's skin and he licks and bites and pulls Ron closer, always closer until he reaches climax and his body turns limp. Ron helps with all he can, he kisses all over and warms Harry's cold arms and navel with his tongue. He cleans up the both of them and licks the salt off Harry's skin.
Harry can't sleep until he is done apologising. He starts and ends many sentences with the word 'sorry', but it doesn't feel like enough so he continues:
"I know you don't want to--"
Ron interrupts him. "I do."
"You only do this because--"
"That's not true."
Harry believes this, maybe.

Ron isn't making sacrifices because they're not sacrifices to him.
