Chapter 2
Garnet opened her eyes. She was lying in bed next to her boyfriend Zidane.
She got out of bed and walked to the window. The Sun started to rise over Alexandria. It rose above the roof tops as people started to wake. Garnet looked to the harbor. A ship pulled up to the dock and stared to unload its goods. She turned around. Zidane was walking towards her. He wrapped his arms around her.
"Good morning my princess." He said. He bent down and placed his hand on Garnets belly, "And Good morning to you my Prince."
"Tee-hee, you know Zidane, it can be girl." Garnet said.
There was a knock on the door.
"Enter." Zidane commanded.
The door opened. It was Steiner. He bowed.
"Morning Rusty." Said Zidane.
Steiner just ignored him. "Your Majesty, how are you feeling this fine morning?"
"Fine, thank you." replied Garnet "Is there something you wanted?"
"Well, no, just checking upon my queen." answered Steiner. He bowed himself out of the room.
"He's getting super-protective again." Zidane pointed out.
"Remember last year? And the year before that? Steiner has been getting over-protective every year around my birthday for the past five years."
"I wonder why…" Zidane wondered out loud.
"Because," said Garnet, "five years ago you kidnapped me!"
"Hey, you wanted to be kidnapped." Zidane replied.
"I know…it's just…it doesn't matter."
"It's just what?" asked Zidane.
"I said it doesn't matter." Answered Garnet.
"Tell me."
"Don't worry about it."
"I'm worrying." Said Zidane.
"Well, don't, cause it's nothing." Garnet said.
"TELL ME!" Zidane demanded.
"Well, maybe if I didn't run away, my mother would've died…" Garnet said as she sat down on the bed.
"Oh Dagger. Listen to me; it would not have mattered if you wanted to run away or not. Remember, Cid wanted you in Lindblum, and I got you there, no matter what happened remember?"
Garnet nodded. She liked the way Zidane still called her Dagger. "Zidane, why did you come with me?"
"I told you; remember that day, in the cove under Eiko's house. It was sunset and you were singing that song." Answered Zidane.
"That was the day I remembered my child hood...you told me that story about Ipsen and Colin…."
"Sing me that song, from Madin Sari; I have not heard you sing it in a long time." Said Zidane.
"You haven't heard me singing the baby to sleep?" Asked Garnet.
Zidane just shook his head, so Garnet sang him the song from Madain Sari…
