Medium
-She was dead once, and revived. Now she's someone who was swallowed by self-pity, and drowned by tears that shall never be shed.

Chapter One - The Smile

I smiled warmly at the first customer of the day. It was always like this. In the earlier mornings, some kind of business man or woman would walk in and order coffee. The college students were next in line, and then it goes on from there. I was bored.

'The Smile' was always tugged on my face whenever I had to see to a customer. It was a very, very fake smile, a smile that one would never see through. I'm a very good actress.

You're probably wondering why I'm working in Medium right now, instead of the other coffee place. Well, it's going awfully close to bankrupt itself, now it has Medium as new rival. I got fired. Bastards says they didn't want any of the Medium workers there. Oh well. We are the best, despite the short time we had been in the business. Medium pays so much more for me and Souta.

Souta still has his job, of course, but now I got to find another one, yet again. Damn. More interviews and insults for me. Yay.

I'm going to Owakeki Corporation tomorrow. I heard the boss is a creep. But I'm great at dealing with creeps, me being one and all.

The freaky thing about the company is, that there was no 'requirements' to get in, aside from being able to use the computer and type fast. It was easy. I learned about computers at school in Junior High. It was a rather... Amusing contraption.

The job I'm applying for only requires me to fill in for the front desk in the afternoons, until six. Turned out the girl, Izuki, doing the job earlier didn't have the time anymore.

Fine. I admit. I was kinda excited. Just a bit, nothing much. This job would pay very, very well - I get half of what Izuki used to get. She still get the other half for mornings.

I guess Souta and I have some hope after all, for a proper life, if not a normal one. At least we could eat better than we do now. Ramen aren't exactly my favorites.

The only bad thing about this job, is that I would have to wear a business suit. I hate that. They required skirts, and those aren't my thing at all. But then again, if wearing a beige skirt give me money, it's worth it.

They would even buy the suits for me.

---

The sun's out today. Pity it wouldn't help at all. I heard this Owakeki guy hates the sun as much as I do, and that's saying a lot.

I'm going to the interview right now, and the sun is most definitely not helping. It's trying to burn my eyes out. Evil, evil sun.

I stepped out of the house. It was six thirty in the morning. It was a one hour walk to the office building. My parents obviously hadn't let us have a car. They didn't even have one themselves. We try to stay away from situations that would require us to go far away.

I sighed. The walk would do me good anyway. I've already gained some weight over the weeks since mom and dad died. Getting a job at Owakeki's would be my daily exercise. That is - if I do get the job at all...

---

I shivered. I never shivered, but I'm shivering now.

It was so cold. The air conditions were on full. We never had air conditioners before at my house. Medium and all the other places I had worked at couldn't afford for it to be this cold.

I walked towards the small, white wooden desk in the center of the room.

I told the dark haired woman, Izuki Kagura, at the desk what I came for, and she told me to go to the twelve floor. The boss' office. I left without saying anything. I've never gotten used to saying thank yous without getting told to do so. I think my parents hate me for that as well, amongst all the other things.

I walked into the elevator. It was larger than the other ones. I pressed the dark button labeled '12' and watched it light up immediately. The doors closed and I felt the elevator go up. And up. And up.

In a moment, I reached my destination. It was even colder here. But I didn't shiver this time. I needed to have a first good impression for the boss.

I saw his office immediately, and then his secretary. She had white hair, and looked even younger than I was. I shrugged it off and told her what I came for.

She checked the computer screen in front of her and nodded.

When she told me the time when I could go in, I was a tad shocked. Just a tad. Her voice was so soft. Void of emotions. I liked her.

When it was time for me to go in, I turned the silver door nob, and walked into the dim room. The man at the desk had long, wavy black hair. His face was dark, despite the small smirk of a smile he had.

I felt colder the moment I saw him, but I just strolled in and sat down at the chair in front of him without him asking me to do so. I didn't cross my legs when he read my resume.

After a while, he laid the folder down and stared at me with his blood red eyes. He was creepy. The rumours were true after all.

Owakeki Naraku was a creep.

I smirked.

---

I got back home at ten. Souta was there.

He shrugged when I had told him I got the job and walked out the door for work.

Author's Note -
I don't feel like myself today. I don't know why. This was done with much haste, and I apologize. I just don't feel up to it right now, but felt I should get this out soon.
