The Dreams That Must Fade...

Chapter 1

A New Story...

The girl slowly brushed her bangs out of her eyes and sat up in the rather uncomfortable bed. Her vision slowly adjusted to the dim light and she realized that she had absolutely no clue where she was; she tried to remember what had happened, but her memories were foggy. She surveyed the room in one glance and sighed; nothing, except for the door that was to her upper right. She tossed her auburn pig tails behind her and shifted the blanket to her left. Her feet gently touched the cold floor and it sent a slight chill up her spine; she took a deep breath and rose to her feet. Her knees buckled and she collapsed to the floor in the next second. She pushed her upper body up and gazed back at her legs; for some reason they wouldn't work.

The door to her cabin opened and an oddly dressed man stepped through the thrushold; he was blonde and wore an eye patch. He glanced at her and smiled.

"Niccy dnihi," he said warmly and approached her; he knelt beside her and examined her, "Xned ehi oui tyurk tyxr nihi"
She crawled away from him, "Oui tyr'd ortihmsert li, ty oui?" She kept her distance from him. "Nio pyam, kufi li myli ecyri duli xudn dni kuhc." the other men that had been standing in the doorway left and the blonde man cautiously approached her. "E's Gippal, xned'm ouih reli?"

"Stay where you are, I don't want you anywhere near me!" she shouted.
"Calm down... I'm not going to hurt you, I promise... My name's Gippal, I'm your friend." he spoke quickly to quiet her."Listen carefully to me, you've been asleep for about a week now, we found you near Baaj and you were unconscious, so we took you onboard."
"What're you gonna do to me?"
"Nothing you don't want me to do...that was a joke, you're supposed to laugh, boy! You're high-strung and you don't have a sense of humor, I can already see how this lovely relationship is gonna work out..."she gave him a look that said, 'I'm going to torture you very... very slowly...'
"Listen to me... we don't want anything from you... it was just a random act of kindness, that's all. Here, I'll help you up." he offered his hand to her; she hesitated and then accepted his offer. She leaned on him and found her way back onto the bed; she sat on the edge and looked up at him.
"Who are you people?" she asked.
"Us? We're called the Al Bhed."he paused,"How did you get all the way out there to Baaj?"
"Baaj? Where's that"
"That's where we found you, Baaj Temple."
"I dunno."
"What's your name?"
"My name?"
"Yeah."
"I...I...don't remember."
"What! You forgot your name!"
"Shut up!"
"Okay, okay. But, all joking aside, you really don't remember..." She nodded.
"I see..."he said, rubbing his chin.
"What?"she asked.
"You must've been near Sin."
"Whaa-"
"Yep, by the loss of memory and the rather rude way you're acting... you had to have been near Sin."
"Quit insulting me!"
"I'm sorry, it's a force of habit."
"Yeah and one you need to break."
"All goofing aside, you must've been in contact with Sin's toxin."
"Toxin?"
"Well, I'm not quite sure what the toin actually is but I know that it can cause memory loss."
"Really?"
"Yeah." he started to head for the door and turned to look at her one last time, "So then, what should we call you?"
"I dunno."
"Well, your new name is..." he took a minute to consider a suitable name, "You're new name is Tryx."

Author's Note:

The translations of the Al Bhed is "Hello there." "What are you doing down here?" "You don't understand me, do you?" "Hey boys, give me some alone time with the girl." "I'm Gippal, what's your name?"
