DENIAL

"I do not like Lily Evans!" James shouts at his friends. Sirius glances over at Remus who in turn holds up the parchment, covered front and back with Lily's initials, that James has been working on.

"That proves nothing!" James shouts again.

His friends exchange glances again. Denial, they think at the same time.

"Go on then, Prongs. What does L-E stand for, then?" Sirius asks lazily.

James thinks quickly. "Uh.. Life Expectancy."

Remus looks at him.

"Yeah, there's this Seer in Diagon Alley who can tell you what your Life Expectancy is.."

They all try not to laugh.

"Actually," James tries again. "It stands for uh, Lock Everything."

"Lock everything?" Remus repeats, sceptically.

James glares at them all. "Yes. Because of the burglars.."

Sirius can't help himself. He bursts into laughter. "James, mate. Those weren't burglars. They were probably just girls looking for your boxers or something."

"No, I've got it. It stands for Long Essay. I've got one to do for Transfiguration," James tries once more.

"That one's not so bad.." Sirius admits. "Unforunately for you, we're in your Transfiguration class and we know there's no essay."

James glares at them.

Sirius, Remus and Peter exchange glances again.

"Or maybe it stands for Laugh Energetically," Remus suggests.

"Yeah, cause that's what we're doing," Sirius adds, dissolving into his laughter again.

"Wait, I thought it stood for Lily Evans.." Peter says stupidly and the tries to ignore the looks that everyone is giving him.

"Or maybe it's Losers Everywhere," James says scathingly.

"Prongs, mate, that hurt," Sirius says mockingly. "After all, we all know what it really stands for."

"No you don't," James shouts and storms out of the Common Room.

"Reckon he's really hacked off?" Sirius asks Remus.

"Nah. Probaly gone to annoy Lily Evans some more."

"Yeah. Let's go Laugh Energetically, hey?" Sirius mocks.

"Or figure out our Life Expectancies?" Peter throws in.

"He's right. There really are Losers Everywhere," Remus says.
