Something Different: Chapter 1
Lily Evans was a charming young witch that every wizard wanted. Of course she didn't want any of them, except maybe one.
"James Potter; Annoying yet charming," Lily thought to herself while sitting under a tree by the lake reading 'Of Mice and Men'.
Lily was a muggle born witch who had a lot of things going for her. Every boy in Hogwarts School of Witch Craft and Wizardry wanted her, except James. She had asked him if he liked her in Fourth year, but he said that he didn't want to give up the wonderful friendship that they had. And they did have a wonderful friendship. James and her were best friends, well, as good of friends a boy could be with a girl. They could talk about everything and anything, except maybe a few things.
"OY! LILY!" someone shouted from the distance. Lily looked up immediatly upon hearing her name and was suprised to see James approacing her with a broad grin on his face.
"What do you want now, Mr. Potter?" Lily replied in a sarcastic tone. "You've interupted my reading once again and you know what I do to people who do that." Lily stood up and brushed the dirt off her butt then gathered her things off the ground.
"For your information, Ms. Evans, I've come to tell you that there is a splendid meal awaiting your slobering mouth just inside that enormous castle, right over there," Mr. Potter said while pointing to the towering castle behind him, still grinning.
Lily looked down at her watch and gave a little squeak. "You mean it's already dinner. Bloody hell, I planned on starting my Charms essay 3 hours ago. Arggghhh! Why didn't you come tell me!"
"Calm down young lady. That essay isn't due for another two weeks."
"That's why I wanted to start it today, so I could get it out of the way," She retorted.
"Whatever. Let's go to dinner. Maybe that'll calm you down."
"I am calm!" With that, Lily threw her book at him.
"Woooo, calm down crazy woman. I was just joking," James smirked.
Lily snorted while picking up her stuff and walked past him at a brisk pace towards the castle. She turned around a good 20 feet from him and yelled, "Come on James. It's dinner, don't you want to come and stuff your big mouth with food!"
At that James rolled his eyes and started jogging to catch up with Lily.
"You know," James said, his tone thoughtful. "Your not too bad for a loud mouth."
"What!"
"Your not too bad for a..."
"No... I heard you. But what in God's name is THAT supposed to mean?"
"Well, it means... Actually I'm not entirely sure what it means."
"Of course you know what it means. You just don't want to tell me," Lily scoffed.
"Yeah. Your right. I do know what it means and I just don't want to tell you."
Lily looked at him.
"What!" James asked.
"Aren't you going to tell me?"
"Maybe," James played.
"Oh for goodness sake, boy! Just tell me!"
"I never asked you, did I," he said with a trace of a smile, "if you still liked me?"
"I've told you I do," Lily said flatly. "But I don't suppose it would matter."
"But it does, Lils."
Lily stopped and looked at James.
"Lily. Do you remember in Fourth year when you asked me if I liked you?"
"Yes, I do. You told me flat out that you didn't want to ruin our friendship," she said with a little bit of malice evident in her voice.
James winced.
"I lied."
Lily was a little taken back by his statement and hesitated a little.
"... But why would you lie about something like that?" she asked.
"I was afraid of what would happen to our friendship."
"Oh," Lily said a little confused.
James went on. "I don't know what changed my mind. I just decided I had to tell you."
"So, you like me?" the girl asked.
"Yes I do."
Lily smiled. "So do you want to go to Hogsmeade with me next weekend?"
