This is my first foray into this fanfic genre. See, I love Ian, and I think he's a great guy. Mostly I was inspired b Heart Bound in Chains by LadyDeb1970 and her personality of Ian. So I created my ideal movie ending for the guy! Hope you all like it!
Disclaimer—I don't own the stuff you recognize. You know, the National Treasure stuff.
Ian sighed as he watched Ben and the man's friends and family investigate around the basement of the old church.
He pushed some hair away from his face, and froze when he felt the necklace chain around his neck.
It was a locket, a gift from his daughter many years ago.
Shaw saw his boss and friend gently fingering the locket that he always wore. "Ian." He said gently.
Ian came out of his past, re-focused on Shaw and sighed. "Shaw… what am I doing?"
Shaw smiled seeing that his friend was loosing the adrenalin of being caught up in the treasure hunt. "I don't know. I guess you got caught in the hunt."
Ian nodded and smiled sadly. "I miss her."
Shaw nodded. "I know. It's been a long time since you saw her yeah?"
Ian nodded again. "She's living in Sydney. Went to school their."
Shaw stepped forward and grabbed Ian's arm. "What are you doing?"
Ian studied the floor for a long moment. "It's too late."
Just then, Ian's other men came up to the two of them. "What's going on?"
Shaw smiled. "He's not caught in the hunt anymore."
The men smiled joined in Shaw's smiling.
"It's too late." Ian said again.
Shaw shook his head. "No it isn't. Let it go Ian. You have the money, go visit your girl. Let Gates have his treasure, and all the good and bad that comes with it."
Again there was silence, then Ian looked up and smiled.
His men returned the smile.
Riley had just found a tomb that was probably important, but Ian didn't care anymore.
"Ben!" He called, making his way over to Ben's small group.
"We found…" Ben began.
Ian cut him off. "Good." He took Abigail's hand and kissed it. "I hope that one day you can forgive me. I hope you all can."
Ian turned back to Ben. "Ben… I'm sorry. I was caught in the hunt, but…" He smiled. "Good luck."
With that, Ian turned and left fallowed by his men.
"Shaw!" Ben called out.
The man paused and turned to face Ben, Riley, Abigail, and Ben's father. "Yes?"
"What's going on? Where is Ian going?"
Shaw glanced to where his boss had disappeared. "He remembered a better treasure. His treasure."
"His treasure?" Asked Abigail. "What is it?"
Shaw nodded and smiled. "Her name's Jessica. And Ian hasn't seen her since he divorced her mother." He focused on the group again. "Good luck Ben, I hope your treasure is as amazing as Ian's."
With that, he turned away, fallowing his boss and friend out of the church, to help him hunt out the man's more worthwhile treasure.
