Some nights, Itsuki dreams.

He dreams of snow (wet and cold and scared out of his wits, clinging so hard to someone he'd fall if he ever let go) and half-running, half-stumbling over it and hanging on, as tight as he can, to a shrine maiden (red hakama, red blood, nonono. Itsuki doesn't like blood). He doesn't recognise where he is. He collapses against a tree and the saddest eyes in the world beg him to make them happy. The shrine maiden leans forward and presses his (his?) face into the crook of Itsuki's neck. It's comforting until Itsuki realises he's fainted, but that doesn't matter. Not really.

Those nights he wakes up early, before dawn, and waits. For what, he doesn't know.

"Hey, you know…"

The train was clanging and screeching beneath them on the way to Osorezan, but Shino shifted on Itsuki's shoulder anyway. Shino had insisted on holding hands underneath the coat covering them for the entire journey. Itsuki had agreed and he had the uneasy feeling that he knew exactly why and so did Shino.

Shino craned his neck to get a better view of Itsuki from where his head was resting. "What?" he asked sleepily and smiled up at him. Itsuki hated Shino's smiles already. They never failed to make him feel weird.

"…Nothing." Itsuki squeezed his hand a bit under the coat. They'd been dating less than three days. Discussing possibly-shared prophetic dreams could wait until the six-month anniversary.
