It has been mealy days sense Severus' spy activities came to a violent end. There was no omen to herald the arrival of several wizards garbed in black. They surrounded the two of them.
It was now the second night after the funeral and Amber was still being watched over in the hospital wing. She had barely drifted off to sleep when the dream came again as it had for the last few nights:
"It wasn't anything, relax Amber you're not helping anyone like this. OK… concentrate!" She remembered those chastising thoughts all too well, but it had been something. It had been… Lucious Malfoy
Deep in the meditation process needed for the mental magic known as lagelamency, which she was gifted with, Amber had not seen their arrival. She was concentrating all of her energy on the citadel of Hogwarts castle. This would with hope take the two of them there.
The last of the Death Eaters, led by Lucious, took advantage of her preoccupation and struck:
"Get them!" yelled Lucious
Severus; who had already undergone so much retrieved the last of his strength to protect her. He reached for his wand… inches away… yes. He lifted it aiming at the Gorilla-like Crab and Goil. They were easily defeated, but then Lucious acted… He snatched Severus' wand breaking it in half.
"Oh, What now Severus?" he asked a sneer crossing his face, eyes sparkling with pleasure.
"I'm not the only capable wizard here," he spat in reply.
Lucious ignoring Severus' response pointed his wand toward the oblivious young witch in front of him. He hissed crucio! Severus arousing his strength yet again lifted himself enough to block the spell. Pain shot through him but only for an instant. He felt a hand reach out. Looking up he saw her gathering the spell in her hands.
"How?" he asked. She smiled slightly at his surprise.
The Death Eaters weren't paying attention to this they were too busy contemplating what to do next, Severus' selfless attempt enticed them to do far more damage then had originally been intended. It was then that Wormtail was hit with the spell. Then they realized the power of student and teacher when together.
Once they had separated the two of them, which had been no easy task, to prevent a collaborated defense. They aroused Severus' furry by threatening to harm the girl. He soon focused on her, for she seamed to have no fear. They exchanged a glance. Tired of their apathy towards his threats Lucious was ready to take more drastic measures. He was determined to regain their notice. He lifted his wand yet again… took aim, and…
Severus once more hindered their attempts to harm her by breaking free from their grasp and taking the "Avada Kadovra", or killing curse that had been intended for her. She wrenched free from their grasp and was at his side in seconds. To her surprise he was still breathing… he whispered her name,
"Amber, go, get to the castle… you'll be safe there."
She nodded a few tears sliding down her cheeks. She bent to brush a kiss on his cheek, she protested, but when she opened her mouth to do so he placed his finger over her lips to quiet her.
"Go it's too late for me."
Inside she knew he was right it was too late, but that didn't make it any easier. As his breathing became more labored she straightened then closed her eyes tight and disappeared. He looked up at Lucious, his eyes showed fear inspite of the defiance his defiance. Then they closed for the last time…
She awoke once again in the hospital wing breathing heavily and trying to choke back a sob. In the next bed of a long ward; a young man of seventeen with dark hair and green eyes lifted his head to look at her. He watched her as she lent back trying to calm herself. This was harder for her then most because she didn't have the ease of knowing that it was only a dream...
That's because it wasn't…
