Harry had just been released from the hospital wing. He had seen many of his friends. He had not yet come across the one he wanted to see most; Amber, he wanted to know if... what he thought he'd heard last night... actually happened.

Because he couldn't find her he decided to ask one of her best friends, Aziza Cano. He found her talking to Emily, another of their best friends. As he approached them Hermione and Ron intercepted him.

"Harry, mate, how are you?" asked Ron in a falsely cheery voice.

"Ron, I'm fine, but what's happened? How long have I been unconscious? The last thing I remember was dueling with Tom… Then waking up in the Hospital Wing last night…" He seamed to trail off thinking about what he'd thought he'd heard.

"Well, Harry," Hermione said quietly, "not everyone came out of the battle unscathed. There weren't many we knew, but… Oh, Harry Professor Snape didn't make it."

"Apparently Amber found him while he was still alive." Ron said, "No one knows exactly what happened… By all accounts they were attacked by Death Eaters."

"We know, they're all dead now," Hermione interjected when she saw him about to interrupt, "but before they were killed they congregated and went in search of anyone, on our side, still alive."

"They found Amber and Profess- Severus first." Ron continued, "They must've attacked them, they killed Severus, and Amber escaped that's about all we know."

"And Amber?" asked Harry.

"None of us have seen her much," said Emily coming over a somber look in her eyes.

Harry turned and headed for the spiral staircase. They all watched him go. They'd done what they could for Amber and hopped Harry could do something. Aziza came over and laid her head on Emily's shoulder. In a sisterly fashion she put an arm around her.

As he walked Harry thought of the 6th year when Amber helped him cope with Sirirus' Death. Now, a year later, he reasoned it was his turn to help her. He now wondered what he would do when he found her. By now he'd reached the entrance hall. Maybe she's in the grounds or something…

Harry found himself crossing a cold misty moor. Harry shivered as he scanned the area looking for her. This wasn't necessarily the best place to be on an early mid November morning. It wasn't just the cold thought; this was the battle field. He knew better then to excite her by trying to force her to come inside. His only reason for being there was to listen and do anything he could for her.

And there she was; through the mist and general gloom of the morning she looked like an apparition, standing completely still, both cloak and hair blowing out behind her. He had known for a long time about her relation to the Headmaster Albus Dumbeldor, but now more then ever he could see her lineage; in her features character and especially her eyes, he could see him in her. It troubled him to see her so laden with grief.

He approached quietly watching her. She only looked up when he placed a hand on her arm. She turned; obviously delighted to see him, she brightened yet he could still see the grief etched in them. The pain he saw made him even more determined to help her return, as much as possible, to her usual optimistic, naive, joyful self. For now he would listen;

"What happened?" he asked as they began to walk back the outline of the castle far off; obscured by the mist. She sighed and fell in step beside him; he placed an arm around her shoulders.

"I dream about it every night... I thought I was too late when I first saw him... Well, here's what happened..."

Later when they entered Griffendor tower Harry filled Hermione, Ron, Aziza, and Emily in on what had happened. He had been staring into the fire now looked up to see their reactions.

"I can't believe it." Hermione said tearfully

"I can!" Ron replied bitterly.

"I'm just glad Amber told someone." Emily remarked glancing over to where Amber was seated by the fire, her phoenix; Ember perched on her chair.

The next morning would hold yet another surprise for our friends. It would come on the frunt page of The Daily Prophet an article stating the names of the "FALLIN HEROS" of the final battle. There would be another story titled "DECEASED EVIL" with the topic sentence "Revenge is sweet."

Which list was Severus put on? That is the question...
