Author's notes: This story came to mind one nightwhile I was listening to a song.
SAFEST PLACE TO HIDE
The rain fell hard on the roof of the old mansion. A young man was looking out the window, like he always did during the storms and when he was lost.
There was no where to run. Everyone was gone. The people he loved most were gone. Remus placed his hand on the window as expecting someone outside to reach him and pull him out, out of his cage. No one came. No one wanted to come and help he thought.
Light foot steps approached behind him. The young woman placed her hand on his shoulder. Remus was much taller than her; she couldn't reach any higher.
"Are you alright?" she asked as her hand trailed downwards to his back.
"I'll be fine." Remus whispered. He continued to look outside. The storm was beginning to get worse.
"Will be?" she whispered as she caressed his back.
Remus turned around and faced her. The pink color of her hair was the only thing bright in the house that evening. His eyes were red, tears slowly ran down his face.
"Remus…." she whispered as she got closer to him to wipe his tears away.
"I'm scared Tonks. More scared than I've ever been in my life. I've lost everyone. I don't wanna lose you." he whispered as more tears rolled down his face.
"You wont. You'll never lose me." she replied hugging him. This was the only day that she didn't smell the chocolate and mint on his clothes.
"You don' t know that. No one will ever know until it's too late." he whispered as he placed his hands on her shoulders and pulled her away.
"Is this about Sirius?" she asked as her body began to quiver under the uncomfortable situation. She never saw Remus in this state. She knew that it was very familiar to him, though.
"No, it's about you, Tonks. You're my safest place to hide. You always have been. I just never told you…..I love you. You're the only one who understands me. You don't care what I am. I want to spend the rest of my life with you., but I'm afraid that I won't be able to. I love you so much, you bring the best out in me….I don't want to lose that feeling." he said as his voiced soften by every sentence.
Tonks stared at him. Tears started to form in her eyes.
"Remus….I'm scared too." she replied in a whisper.
Their heads leaned in and their lips fell into a kiss. They both never felt what feeling they were experiencing. They liked it, though.
"We can start now." Tonks said as she pulled of her jacket and let it fall off her shoulders. Remus smiled and let his blazer fall of his shoulders too. He lead her into his bedroom quietly.
They made love like that was their last day together. Both were sacred that this night was their last. As they continued the sun rose and another day began.
"It's another day." Tonks replied as she twirled her finger in his grayish hair.
"I know. It's another beginning for us." he said as he stared in her eyes. They were truly happy together. They both didn't want that feeling of love to go away.
The whole day Tonks and Remus laid in his bed talking and loving each other. They discussed what would happen in their future. They both decided to let it happen. They wanted it to be a surprise. Whatever would be in store for them they would handle it together. No matter what the circumstances.
Each of them was the other's safest place to hide. And that's how it would be until the end.
