Fandom: FFVII
pairing: AerisTifa (femmeslash)
Summary: Aeris is strong for Tifa, but nothing lasts forever.

Tifa could feel how strong Aeris was, tangible and deceptively powerful underneath fingertips. It came out in odd angles, like the sharp spring of muscle under soft stomach skin, the hard grip of fingers as they twisted into her hair. At times Tifa could swear the taste of copper, heady and strong, sharp and resilient, could be sensed on the other girl's tongue, thigh, stomach. Tifa could appreciate the power, needed it. She wasn't very strong herself, she couldn't make it to the end of the world alone.

At times they would sit in silence, times when Tifa saw Cloud that day, saw him watching someone else. His eyes would trail- bluesteel gaze watching someone, Vincent, Sephiroth, lost but focused, and not on her. Those days Tifa could feel Aeris' fragility as well as her own, a soft current of longing trailing just under delving fingertips, not spoken but shared. Somehow they manage past Cloud, still revolving around him, always centered on him, but concentrating on one another. It helps, a bit.

Aeris is still strong when she dies. Tifa watches- can taste the girl's taste, the tang of blood, and feel the girl's skin- but can't taste. Can't feel. Can't move. Can't do anything. Aeris dies then, on her knees, bleeding and punctured and noble and /gone/. In a brief moment of panic, Tifa believes she will die too- without support, she will simply wither within herself before this incredible trial, this task of saving the entire goddamn world.

She bites her lip and tastes copper. It's enough, and she struggles on.
