Title: "Fears"
Characters/Pairings: Dearka x Miriallia (OMG the DY fan is writing DM!); mention of Tolle
Rating: PG
Word Count: 273
Genre: Reflective-ish
Author's Note: OMG i've written something! its been a while, but this is proof that I'm not failing life. (or at least, mostly not). sorry its been so long. tennis and writer's block has gotten to me. Now, i'll say right here that i'm so not a DM fan. I prefer Dearka x Yzak. But i promised my friend Chrissy that i'd write her DM since she's a DM fangirl who has still read all my DY stuff. plus you cant fight inspiration. --
Her heart was fragile, tentatively glued back together after it had been shattered by Tolle's death. She had made it though her grief only by like, but it had been a rough road. And now her heart was reluctant to love again, fearing rejection or loss, for it wouldn't be able to withstand such pain a second time.
Miriallia feared love. She feared losing what she loved again. It was the reasons she did her best to avoid a certain blonde pilot. It wasn't easy; he had a knack for always tracking her down, whether she was on the bridge or in the mess hall. She had figured out that he was interested in her long before Sai, being the slow blockhead he was, pointed it out one day. She couldn't deny that the feeling was, to a degree, mutual. Butterflies would always appear in her stomach whenever Dearka was around. But to open up to him would mean opening herself to heartbreak. He was a pilot. She knew perfectly well how dangerous that was. One shot and he, like Tolle, would never be coming back.
Which was why, when he'd finally worked up the nerve to kiss her, she hesitated. The choice was hers. Deny her heart, but avoid being hurt, or give in to those cursed butterflies, regardless of what may come of it. Tolle would've told her to accept these feelings, she knew. And he was usually right too. She had more than enough regrets in life as it was. Throwing caution to the wind, she returned the kiss. She might be hurt, but she couldn't let fear rule her.

sorry for shortness, but it was written for a drabble contest. So i hope this makes all those canon shippers out there who detest anything outside their comfort zone / but um, dont look for a ton more DM stuff from me, since Dearka/Yzak is my love-child obsession. hehe.
