Author's Note: Another one of those 15 minute drabbles. I'm rather fond of this one though. First Inuyasha x Kagome pairing I've ever written. I think Inuyasha is slightly out of character, but I think you all can deal with it. ;) Well, nothing more for me to say, here! Enjoy! Reviews are welcome.
Savory
It wasn't the imagery that caught him off guard, but rather it was the savory sweet smell that she gave off instead. He tried his hardest to ignore it, but the scent lingered in his nose anyway.
Kagome sat on the edge of the well in her usual green and white fuku. What was different was that she was hunched over with her knees brought to her chest. That wasn't what had caught Inuyasha off guard, however.
It was the scent of her tears. Hey smelled sweet, albeit salty but sweet – almost like hickory. Inuyasha wasn't sure if he should approach her or let her alone. He hated it when she cried, but he had virtually no people skills whatsoever.
Still, Inuyasha took a step towards her.
"Kagome," he whispered gently, as he took his seat next to her.
Kagome was startled by the hanyou. She looked up at him with a tear-stained face and her eyes pleaded with him; pleaded with him not to say a word, but to hold her instead. Inuyasha acknowledged this and very awkwardly put his arm around her. Kagome leaned into him and cried softly.
Inuyasha stroked her hair softly and placed a gently kiss on her forehead. He didn't ask what was wrong. He didn't say a word. He only held her and let her cry into his chest.
Later that night, after Kagome had stopped crying and cheered up a bit (thanks to the antics of Shippou), Inuyasha decided to take a bath. When he clothed himself again, after his relaxing bath, he smelled Kagome's tears on his haori. The savory hickory scent stayed with him and lulled him to sleep that night and every night for the next month or so.
