No, It's Not

by Maria Stars

No, it's no alright

For a hero to live

All alone.

The people adore him

For protecting their city,

But never do they

Think that maybe,

Just maybe

That their hero

Needs a little

Something more?

To add to his life,

A little something,

More, to add joy

And happiness.

No, never do they

Once think about

Their hero's needs,

Only theirs.

He's saved the day again.

Amid loud cheers and

Applause he rides.

Through the crowds

Epona trots, unaware of

Her friend's plight.

Though he shows

A smiling face to

The crowd, he is

Sad and lonely inside.

No one sees through

This "mask" he wears.

No one even realizes

That he even wears one.

No one, except me that is.

I alone seem to see

The sadness in his eyes.

I alone seem to

See through the "mask"

That he shows to

Everyone.

I meet his eyes

With mine one day

As he trots through

Town.

My unspoken message

Is clear,

"You should not be sad."

Our eyes stay

Connected til he

Can no longer see

Me in the crowd.

He tries to find me

Later, but I will

Go to him on my

Own terms.

I appear at his

Home the very

Next day, standing

In the shadows.

He does not see me

At first, sitting on his

Porch steps, looking as

Though he wished to cry.

"Hello." I say to him,

Just loud enough for him

To hear, as I step

Out of the shadows.

He sees me, then

Jumps up and runs

Over toward me.

I stand my ground.

We talk for awhile,

Then I reach up and

Slide my hand into

His hair.

He shivers gently

At my touch, for

Long it has been

Since last he had felt

Such a touch.

His eyes never

Leave my face as

I gently draw my

Hand down across

His cheek.

I feel the heat

Raising to his face,

And I can sense

His heartrate raise

As my hand

Caresses his cheek.

"You're the one I've been waiting for."

He whispers to me.

He reaches up and touches

My cheek gently.

For a moment,

We only look

At each other.

"I love you." He whispers.

Then he presses

His lips to mine

In a sweet kiss.

I respond by

Wrapping my arms

Around him.

He does the same.

After a moment,

We part to

Gaze, once more

Into each other's

Eyes.

"You'll never have to be sad and lonely again, Link."

I whisper to him.

"I love you too."
