Athrun/Cagalli hints. Takes place sometimes during the last few eps.

Needing Nothing

Cagalli doesn't realize she has been staring out the window until Athrun startles her out of it by putting a hand on her shoulder. She jumps and frowns and bites back a surprised curse—she hates it when people sneak up to her, even if it is somewhat easier to accept when it's Athrun.

"They're closing the kitchen," Athrun says, raising his eyebrows at her shock. "Thought you might want this."

Cagalli blinks. Athrun is holding out a ration bar towards her, one with blue wrapping that reveals its flavour: chocolate. The blue are always chocolate, the red strawberry. The green, apple, are rare and therefore everybody's favourite. There are probably not many of those around on this ship anymore.

The blue wrapping-paper is depressing, a very plain shade on cheap glazed paper.

Cagalli considers telling Athrun the truth, that she isn't really fond of chocolate. The words don't want to make it through her throat. And Cagalli has never been very picky; hell if she is going to start now.

Accepting it with a nod, Cagalli holds the ration bar in her hand and looks at it.

She is aware of how Athrun shifts and studies her for a moment. "See you later," he says after a moment, waiting until she looks up and meets his eyes before leaving.

Cagalli nods again. "Mm." She watches him walk away, then looks down at the ration bar again.

She wishes she could've been somewhere quieter, more private. The people walking, talking and running in the corridor are annoying (she resists her urge to shout that they should all go away) because her face is heating and suddenly, eating a ration bar feels like a very private thing to do.

Staring at it for a while longer, Cagalli finally unwraps it and starts nibbling.

And for some reason, she finds that chocolate doesn't taste quite as terrible as she had thought.
