Sitting in his chair in his office he stares at her sitting on his desk her back turned towards him while she talks to her boyfriend on the phone.

He knows that she loves him. She told him that often enough. But she loved nearly everyone here. Everyone in their family'.

He loves her. Not the way he loves his co-workers. He loves her with all his heart. He'd do anything for her. He'd die for her.

But as he once told his co-workers that he was a ghost at school, he has to say he's still one. May there be a lot of people respecting him and working with him. But for her he'll always be a ghost. He'll always be her best friend, nothing more.

He had seen her smile often. But now it is different. After she ended the call, she smiled at him. At him but not for him. She smiles a lot for him and with him. But when she's in love that smile is different. For many people it's not noticeable. But for him it is.

He has known her so long and he saw her smile often. He saw the way she smiled at Ed. He saw the way she smiled at Paul. And now he sees the way she smiles at Chris.

Paul and Ed broke her heart and he hates them for that. But before that they earned at least one of these loving smiles.

O what would he give to get one of those smiles. Just one single one.

He could tell her how he feels about her. But he fears her reaction. And so he never told her how much he loves her. He doesn't want to ruin the friendship they have. He would give everything for a smile like the one she's wearing now. But he wouldn't give her up for that.

So the only thing he can do is watching her smile at other men. Jealousy runs through his body every time he has to.

In the end she'll end up crying at his doorstep as always. He wishes she wouldn't always end up like that. But he's there to comfort her. He's always there.

If he only had one chance to be together with her he wouldn't let her end up like this. He would love her for the rest of his life.

But he's simply not the person to take the chance lying in front of him. It's not his character to do so.

He's still a ghost.

He always dreams of seeing her smile at him this way someday.

But being realistic he knows, she never will smile that way for him.

So he's waiting for his dreams to come true. He'll always be waiting. For her.

Waiting for a smile he knows he'll never be the reason for.

THE END
