The Other Side

Notes: This is my first attempt to write a HP fic. This is supposedly about Remus Lupin's past... but... nevermind. Just Read & Enjoy.
Also, English is not exactly my first language, so I am a bit rusty. School really does its work of "refining" the once intelligent mind.

Disclaimer: Most of this stuff came from the wonderful J. K. Rowling… I own nothing, except a few original characters, so please no suing…

Prologue:

The night was simply beautiful that autumn: the cool air, the cloudless sky, the bright, round moon… It was perfect enough for one to lie down in the grass, gaze at the wonderful stars, which seem to wink at us from their home up above; or perhaps catch some fireflies so we can have some of those winking stars much nearer. It was just too irresistible for a certain young boy to go out and play under the bright moon, but he shouldn't.

"I know you love stars and fireflies, but please not tonight. Besides, it's already past your bedtime!" His mother had told him. But she did not tell him why he shouldn't go out at that time.

She usually let him play a moment or two outside at night if he was a good boy… so does that mean he wasn't a good boy? No, it must be because tonight was too good a night for little boys like him to wander outside.

Now, this little boy wanted to be outside so badly that he couldn't just sleep while those tempting fireflies and enticing stars peer at him through his bedroom window. He must get out and obtain some of those stars in his little hands. He just had to!

So, the little boy crept out of his bedroom when he was sure his parents were asleep. He knew where he should go. Their house's backdoor has a latch that could be unlocked easily and it leads to a forest. And when there is a forest, there are fireflies!

Slowly, the boy tiptoed to it, and most carefully, opened the door.

Ah! The fresh air was fantastic. And sure enough, there were already some fireflies lurking near clearing of their yard. The boy started to chase them. He jumped up and down, frantically trying to catch one right away. Before he knew it, he was already deep in the forest.

After a few minutes, he stopped. He was tired, and wanted to sleep. He looked around and tried to find his way back home, but he was too deep in the forest. He wandered here and there, but in vain.

Shortly, he slumped down near a tree and did the last thing he could do. He cried. He cried out for his mother, his father, anyone who could help him find his way home.

Suddenly, a bush a little distance from him rustled. Expecting his father to come out, he looked at the bush hopefully. Finally, someone found him! But it was not his father. It wasn't even a person…

A wolf emerged from the bush. It stared hungrily at the boy, who was now shaking in fear. He knew enough that wolves attack and eat people up, like in the stories his mother told him, but he has no idea what this wolf could do to him.

The wolf slowly approached the terrified boy. It was very hungry. It wanted to eat, and what's better than human meat? It moved a little closer before it pounced at him. Its fangs dug on the tender flesh of his shoulder.

Suddenly, a jet of light hit the wolf. The boy could hear voices calling out his name, "Remus! Remus!" His vision blurred. He heard a lot of rustling, but it seemed so far.

After that, he saw and heard no more.

More NOTES: Oh, yeah! I need more ideas for this story. I had some plan about it, but I was only able to write this chapter... I am in desperate need of a beta-reader or just someone who'd help me improve my writing... THANKS FOR READING THIS!
