She was sleeping, curled up on her side on his bed. A twist of golden hair hung over one eye. Her ivory hands were on her stomach. She breathed softly, snuffly, her chest rising and falling slowly.
Maybe it had been a mistake to bring her. She was too innocent, much too innocent, for this world. He had no right to involve her in it.
He chewed his lip. She had begged to come, cried and pleaded. Goodbye would have been too painful for them both, he recalled, remembering how he had sobbed as he prepared to leave her. Her hot lips had been no comfort to him as he had realised he would never see her again if he left her.
But it was still probably a mistake. Could he forgive himself if she got hurt? Could he protect her from the dangers of piracy?
He carefully brushed the stray strand of hair away from her perfect face, brushing her soft skin with the rough ends of his fingers. Her brown eyes opened sleepily, and she smiled warmly at him. "Jack?"
Their hot lips met in a loving kiss. No, Jack thought as he kissed her, he did not regret bringing her one little bit.
