Chapter Five
Agrabah
A/N: Hahaha, there's plenty of Squffie fluff in this chapter and I enjoy the last parts of the story. Go ahead! Read it! I know you want to or else you wouldn't be here! Go go! *Ushers reader to hurry* haha j/k. Do whatever you like.
"Donald! Goofy!" Goofy turned clumsily around and tripped over Donald, which set them both tumbling forward.
"Goofy!" Donald yelled, squeakily and a large amount of vexation in his bellow. Goofy scratched his head innocently and gave a happy yet, silly smile. Donald scowled darkly at him and grabbed his wizarding rod.
"Gawrsh, sorry 'bout that Donald," he laughed. Donald sighed angrily, shook himself off and saw Yuffie. He waddled towards them as Yuffie waved. Goofy, who was tending to his shield, walked behind him. Squall just glowered with the feeling of happiness. It was always like this for him; glaring was what he always did.
"Yuffie, Leon! What are you guys doing here?" he asked. Yuffie grinned and replied unenthusiastically, "We thought Sora might be here since he usually never misses a tournament, but this time we seem wrong. We just found you two instead."
"We had that same--Hey!! What do you mean you found us instead?!" Yuffie laughed and Donald pouted. Goofy gave his laugh and Yuffie began to laugh with him. Squall just gave his irritated expression.
"Nothing personal, Donald," Yuffie said, in between breaths, "We were hoping to find Sora since an incident that had happened." Donald raised his eyebrows in curiosity. Goofy scratched his head once more before asking, "Incident? What kind of incident?" Yuffie became quiet at the question. Squall glanced at her thinking that this might be a clue for him to do it for her instead.
"It happened a couple days ago…Aerith was kidnapped," he began. He told the whole thing leaving out the event in which he had talked to her. Donald was gaping at Squall, while Goofy was taking it all in. They both gasped as he finished and Donald squawked, "What do you mean Sora's dead!?"
"Well, we don't believe he is, right Yuffie?" Squall asked, irritation clearly in his voice. Yuffie was looking elsewhere and not really listening so she absent mindedly said, "Yeah, uh huh." Squall glared at her.
"Well, that's what we should do. Never give up hope if you can still have it," Goofy added. Donald nodded with the same thought at mind. Yuffie was giving her attention elsewhere to a fight. She was watching a battle between a couple people. For some reason, it caught her interest making her attention go elsewhere. She turned slightly and frowned. She had the option to fight in the tournament, but something was telling her not to participate.
"Yuffie," a voice interrupted her thoughts. She glanced back out of the corner of her eye at Squall, who was giving her a curious look. Blush began spread across her face and she turned around quickly so he couldn't see her face.
"Excuse me a moment," Yuffie said, quietly and took off for the benches on the other side of the coliseum. She wasn't sure why she was acting like this. Maybe it was from the events from the past couple of days. She was just so emotionally mixed up, she felt like she was going to explode and she didn't want that to happen when she was around Squall.
"Donald, Goofy? Where have you guys searched for Sora?" Squall asked. Donald looked up at Squall since he was over towering him and replied, "We've only been here. That's all." He sounded as if he snapped at Squall but that was Donald's normal tone of voice.
"Hmph." Squall tipped his Gunblade over his shoulder and turned around. Cid came along and let out a profanity.
"It's you two!" They both turned their gaze to the mechanic. "It's been ages since I saw you two!" Cid got into some conversation with them, giving Squall the chance to make his way from there.
"Cloud probably signed up for the tournament. I don't know if I should this time," Squall thought to himself. He glared yet again at the ground and stalked off in the other direction.
Yuffie watched the ground as if something were interesting. Her dark brown hair fell limply in her face while she pushed her head down farther. She wondered about Sora at times. What it was like to be the Keyblade master and all. Was it tough or did it come easy to him since he had that Keyblade? That was something Yuffie would probably never know. She felt something touch her shoulder and she continued to look down as if nothing was happening.
"Yuffie," the voice said, sternly. She didn't even bother to say anything. She kept her dark eyes on the ground. She felt them sit next to her, which she couldn't help but shiver. "Yuffie…Is there something bothering you?" That caught her attention especially since it came from someone she thought she'd never get this from. She let her gaze wonder up a little.
"No," was all she said. That didn't satisfy him and he turned her to face him. He had both of his hands now on her shoulders, which gave her a feeling she didn't want.
"I don't think so," he said. She let her gaze fall back down again.
"I'm fine," she said.
"Yuffie, you always say that even if there is something wrong. What's wrong?" Squall asked, quietly, only audible between them. Yuffie's eyes widened at his tone. He never sounded like this so that gave Yuffie shock. Yuffie realized it was getting dark and everyone was already inside to get some rest. No one was about at the moment except for the two on the benches. Yuffie was quiet and whispered very quietly, "I hope Aerith is alright. Meeting Donald and Goofy gave me some hope for Sora, but I'm so messed up right now, it's not funny."
"Explain messed up to me," Squall asked, quietly. Yuffie was silent then gritted her teeth before she looked up at Squall.
"I can't sort out my thoughts, Heartless are roaming, and Sephiroth's out to get me-" She gasped and covered her mouth. Squall's eyes widened and he asked with force, "Sephiroth's out to get you!? What do you mean?!" Yuffie looked the other way and made a move to run. Squall didn't let her and grabbed her.
"Yuffie! I demand you tell me! What do you mean he's out to get you!?" Squall whispered, fiercely in her ear. She was put in restraint and if she moved, it hurt real badly.
She became very silent and didn't move. She tried to breathe quietly, but the tension between them was at a high level. Her eyes were moving downward and around. They became still and she didn't make a move. Squall lowered his lips to her ear and he whispered softly, "Yuffie, tell me…please." She gritted her teeth with tears forming in her eyes again. He released his grip from her and pulled away from her a little bit. Her back was to him and then she slowly turned around. He could see the tears covering her brown eyes. They weren't going to spill he knew. She wouldn't let them.
"I…" she couldn't finish. He arched his eyebrows in worry, which was uncharacteristic for him. Yuffie gritted her teeth again.
"Yuffie," he said, quietly.
"Squall!" she cried. Squall moved forward quickly grabbing her hands. He massaged them gently to keep her calm.
"Yuffie," he whispered, "Tell me…"
"Squall, I'm so scared," she whispered, in fear. "He haunts me all the time, in my dreams, in my mind, and his words still stick with me. He visit a couple days ago was to kidnap me, not Aerith. He took her hostage so I'd give up and I just can't. Something's not letting me…I'm so scared," she cried.
"It's okay, Yuffie," he whispered, "I won't let him take you." Yuffie was trembling beneath his grip. She was frightened out of her wits. She couldn't control herself. Her body just did it naturally. He would've never thought Sephiroth wanted to take her. So many questions ran through his mind like why did Sephiroth want her in the first place? If it were for any sexual reason, Sephiroth would never see the day of light. He would never see the day of light after he got through with him in the first place.
"I can't...do anything. What do I do if he comes when I least expect it! I won't be able to protect myself alone like-"
"Yuffie enough," Squall interrupted. He had an uncharacteristic look in his eyes. He even had an expression on that he had never really on before; he couldn't explain it. "I'll be there when he does come. I will protect you with my life. Sephiroth is going to pay dearly for his sins and Cloud and I will make sure of it." Yuffie felt relief wash all over her, but the fear still sat deep in the depths of her.
"Is that...a promise?" she asked, softly. Squall nodded and gave a slight smile.
"Yes. It's a promise," Squall whispered. Yuffie smiled and then brought her eyes up with a great deal of brightness.
"Hey...I called you Squall and you never corrected me," Yuffie pointed out. Squall had realized that and replied grimly, "and that's the only time you will ever get to so that." Yuffie gave a slight smile and rolled her eyes.
"I knew it was too good to be true."
"And you knew right." Yuffie smiled and Squall began to pull her back towards the lobby. He put an arm around her shoulder to let have the feeling of safety. Her going crazy because of her fear of Sephiroth was the last thing they needed at the moment. Yuffie was staring at the ground so she couldn't look at Squall.
"Why is my question...Why does he want me?" Yuffie wondered to herself. At least she felt safe in Squall's grip and knew nothing would happen to her. They made it back to the lobby and Yuffie was rushed to resting area to review what she did. Yes, she was embarrassed, but was glad to let someone else know. She felt a rush of tiredness fill her and she laid down to get some shuteye.
Squall felt very different at the moment. He couldn't explain his feelings. He had never actually experienced these feelings in such a long time. Worry, pity, and concern were all mixed up to create this emotion. He knew Yuffie didn't want anyone to heed about her.
*****
Yuffie slept while the three stood in the lobby uttering softly about Sephiroth and Yuffie. Squall explained to them what Yuffie had told him and felt ire stir deep with in him. Cloud let his expression go as unreadable while Cid on the other hand had his mouth dropped to the floor. Many profanities came from his mouth and Cloud just rolled his eyes. Cid never took this kind of news well.
"So you mean Aerith has been taken hostage?" Cloud whispered. Cid frowned and said, "Obviously." Cloud looked up at him and shrugged. He never really fought back unless it was with Squall. The reason why, no one knew.
"Does that mean Yuffie's never safe alone?" Cloud questioned again.
"Damn man, you ask the stupidest questions," Cid muttered. Cloud just kept his gaze over at Squall.
"I'm going to protect Yuffie no matter what. She's never going to leave my sight without a fight. Sephiroth will never get near her if it even costs my life," Squall said, harshly but with care.
Cloud gave a blank stare at Squall. He turned his head in thought and Cid gave a curious look at Cloud.
"Wouldn't you do the same for Aerith, Cloud?" he asked. Cloud turned his head to Cid and smiled.
"Yes, of course I would but I love her deeply unless Leon love-"
"Don't start," Squall warned, as he interrupted Cloud. He glowered at Cloud because he had a grin on his face.
"Okay, okay," Cloud said, stopping what he was going to say. Cloud had a huge grin form on his face and Squall ignored it by looking the other way. Cloud sighed and then spoke up to change the subject, "Sora's not here and obviously isn't in Traverse town."
"He's not at the Deep Jungle either," Cid added. They looked over at him, well, just Cloud. Squall was still looking the other way with irritation. "Donald and Goofy looked there. They told me."
"Where do we try next?" Cloud asked. There was a silence and then Cid said, "How about that one desert place?" Cloud gave an expression of confusion. He never really knew of Sora's travels and of course, Cid did because of the Gummi ship.
"Agrabah," Squall muttered.
"Yeah, that's it!" Cid shouted. Cloud just sighed at the over excited pilot and turned around.
"Then it's settled. We're going to Agrabah," Cloud clarified and left. Cid smirked, chewing his straw in the process and followed Cloud out the door. Squall was left alone to think then he thought of his promise.
"Ah shit. I'm already breaking it!" He hissed, furiously. He pushed himself up from the wall in rage. He didn't know if it was from Cloud accusing him of something he wasn't sure of yet or the fact he was an ass and already forgot the promise. He paced himself quickly out the of the lobby and into the resting area for the fighters and visitors. The coliseum had developed this area for fighters who were going to fight in the next round and the match would be the next day.
Squall walked into the rest area to see her petite form resting in the corner. This was the first night he had actually seen her at a calm. She was usually having a nightmare and that always woke him up. The other night was the worse she had had in a long while though. Squall went over and sat beside her sleeping form. He was going to make sure nothing would happen to Yuffie.
"Hmph," he grunted. He turned his head to the side and saw no one else in the resting area, as odd as that was. Cloud was probably training and Cid was out at the Gummi ship repairing it. He looked back at her and gave a slight smile.
Squall laid down and rested his head back. He stared up at the ceiling for a long time thinking. He was figuring out places where Sora would possibly be.
"If only you could give us a clue Sora," Squall whispered, as he closed his eyes. He fell asleep into a deep sleep...
*****
She opened her eyes to see the room a little bright. She sat up; her dark brown hair fell in of her face. She pulled her headband out because it was falling off. She clenched it in her fists wondering if she should put it back in. Maybe she'd take a break from it for now. She shook her head to make her hair move out of her face.
"Finally up?" Yuffie's eyes darted to the corner of the room. The brunette was sitting up holding onto his Gunblade. It looked like he shined it because it gleamed in the sunlight.
"What do you mean 'finally'?" Yuffie asked, in a monotone like motion.
"It's 7 am. You went to bed early last night yet you -still- slept in," Squall explained. Yuffie pressed her lips together and pouted.
"Sure, that's your idea of sleeping in! For me, it's whenever I get ten hours of sleep," she explained, turning her back to him. She stretched and laid back down. "And those ten hours haven't been accounted for yet." Squall just rolled his eyes and continued to shine his Gunblade. There was silence then Yuffie spoke up, "Why do you even shine that thing? It just gets covered in blood." Squall quirked an eyebrow and replied, "Just be thankful that this shiny piece of metal will be there to save you when you're in trouble."
"Alright, whatever," Yuffie muttered. It was a while of silence and the only thing that could be heard was the sound of Squall's Gunblade hitting the ground for some testing. Yuffie felt a strong urge to fall asleep again but her body wouldn't let her. It was one of those things where once you've woken up; you can't go back to sleep. She sat up with annoyance and turned her head. Squall was getting up to leave the room and made one final glance over his shoulder at her before he left.
"Grr...Fine.....Wait up!" Yuffie brushed her hair out of her face quickly and got up to leave. She had a rough time with her shoes. They didn't cooperate the way she wanted them to do and stumbled out the door into someone. He caught her and she looked up embarrassed.
"Having troubles I see," he commented. Yuffie glowered at him and pushed him away, stomping towards the lobby. He turned his gaze elsewhere to caution if there was anything they needed to be alert on. Yuffie sauntered forward towards the lobby to see Cid conversing with Donald and Goofy again. Cid shifted himself to glance over at Yuffie as she approached.
"What are you guys talking about?" she questioned. They looked at one another then Cid spoke as he chewed on his straw.
"We're going to Agrabah and they're coming along." Yuffie couldn't help but grin. She pushed her short hair out of her small face and gave a thumbs up.
"Great! Can't wait," she uttered, happily. Donald's gaze fell upon her and he stared in disbelief. Cid turned his gave to Donald then to Yuffie and noticed it too.
"Hey, when did you take your headband out? Never seen ya without it," Cid spoke aloud. Yuffie remembered she had the headband still clenched in her hand and brought it up to eye level to inspect it. She shrugged and watched it dangle.
"Um, I think it's time to give the headband a break. It kept falling in my face." They all gave a look of understanding her and Yuffie shrugged yet again. She leaned forward and asked, "We're really going to Agrabah?" Donald squinted his eyes in confusion and quacked.
"Yes...Why?" Donald asked, suspicious of anything Yuffie was hiding. Yuffie felt her grin fade momentarily then she recovered.
"Oh no reason. Heard it's a fun place," she covered herself. She turned around quickly and ushered off in the direction towards the other part of the lobby. She had a dream about Agrabah the night before. She couldn't remember any of it although she knew she dreamt of it. She had no clue why she would remember such a thing. Her facial expression was unreadable at the moment.
*****
"Hurry!" Yuffie said, pushing Squall forward into the Gummi ship. He was caught off guard as Yuffie was doing so.
"Yuffie," Squall growled, dangerously. "WHY are you in such a hurry to leave?" Yuffie ushered him forward even harder than before.
"Reasons now hurry!" Yuffie hissed. People began to stare at them and Yuffie glared at them. They turned their head quickly the other way and Squall stopped right in front of the Gummi ship, pulling himself around to her. Her body crushed into his and she fell back a little.
"Yuffie," he whispered, venomously. The door to the Gummi ship was open because Cloud and Cid were already in there.
"Go!"
"Not until I have your reasons." Yuffie gritted her teeth and turned her head to hear a riot of yelling.
"Shit!" she used all her strength in her arms and pushed Squall into the Gummi ship and then followed suit after. "MOVE IT now Cid!" The doors to the Gummi ship closed and he powered it up. They took off and Yuffie looked out the window to see a riot of people who were dressed fairly the same, yelling up at them. She hoped they wouldn't throw anything at them, which they did. Cid dodged them and took off for Agrabah.
Everyone in the Gummi ship turned their attention towards Yuffie. They gave her glares and she just glared back.
"Hey! It's not my fault!" She hissed.
"What exactly did you do, Yuffie?" Squall asked, dangerously. Yuffie sighed dramatically and rolled her eyes.
"The guy was hitting on me for crying out loud! I told him to stop but he wouldn't so he got what he got," Yuffie explained in a huff. They all looked at Squall curiously because they knew he was there because he kept an eye on Yuffie.
"Oh...So that's what he was doing," Squall said, knowing he would get her mad, which she did.
"OH GAWD! I'm stuck with a bunch of asinines," Yuffie cried. Cloud smirked. She knew Cid was too even though he was facing forward to watch where they were traveling because he face wrinkled up like it always did when he smirked. "Oh shut up," she huffed, crossing her arms and looking out the window. Cloud gave a laugh while Squall and Cid smirked.
The trip wasn't that long. They landed in the desert terrain and Yuffie was the first to hop out. Cid was packing up the Gummi ship along with Squall and Cloud's help. She slipped out of their sight without any notice. She walked along the dirt path, watching the salesman advertise their products. She walked away quickly and saw an apple stand. She walked up to it to see a large man hissing to something in the corner. It looked like a monkey.
"Hey, a monkey!" Yuffie whispered. The large man looked over at her and she saw him pull out a sword.
"You're a part of this! That monkey's always stealing my food!" he said, as he advance on her. She shook her head and told him he had the wrong person. The large man was too stubborn and began to swing at her. She backed up quickly, dodging one of his blows. She ran off in the other direction looking over her shoulder to make sure the man wouldn't follow her. She didn't watch where she was going and crashed into somebody.
"Whoa!" the voice exclaimed. Yuffie looked up and apolgiezed.
"Sorry!" she said, quickly. She looked over her shoulder and squeaked. The man from the apple stand was barging through the crowd. She felt the man grip her wrist.
"Follow me if you want to live," he offered. Yuffie didn't really have a choice. They ran into a secret area and jumped on a couple things before he led her into a shabby place. She looked around and watched out the window as the large man ran by with his sword. She gave a sigh of relief and turned to the man.
"Thanks," she said, softly.
"No prob. I run into him all the time," he replied. "I"m Aladdin."
"Yuffie." He smiled and she turned around looking out the window. Aladdin checked her out briefly to see what he was dealing with. "I got to get back to my crowd. Do you know where this is?" Aladdin looked up at her and then said, "I'll show you to them if you can give me a description." Yuffie smiled and began to describe them.
"Oh and there's a guy named Squall who looks grumpy all the time and-"
"That him?" Aladdin asked, as he pointed out the window. There he was, looking for Yuffie along with Cloud and Cid. She gave a curt nod and began to go down the stairs. She turned to look over at Aladdin.
"Come on!" Aladdin grinned and followed Yuffie. She came down the stairs and snuck up behind Squall and the others. She snuck up behind Cloud and jumped him from behind. Luckily for her, he knew it was her from the light weight. He stumbled forward a bit and Yuffie grinned.
"Ha! That's for back in Traverse town!" She said, reminding him of the event at the cafe. Cloud frowned and turned his head the other way.
"Yuffie...no I better not start. Who's this?" Squall asked.
"Aladdin." Squall frowned. Sora had mentioned him a while ago.
"You shouldn't be wandering these streets. It's really dangerous," Cid said to Yuffie. Yuffie glared and then Cid continued, "You're just a girl."
"A beautiful one may I add to that," Aladdin added. Yuffie felt blush creep up her cheeks. Squall glared at Aladdin. He turned his head giving a snort. He felt anger rise up in him. He didn't know why.
"Atleast someone around here has noticed," Yuffie murmured. Squall heard that comment and growled.
"Come on. Let's find a better place to talk," Yuffie offered and walked in the other direction.
"Here, I'll show you a place," Aladdin said, following her closely. Squall gritted his teeth. He didn't want to think of the thoughts going through his head. That would mean he would have to admit....Squall Leonhart was jealous.
