She was sure that had Mai, Shizuka or even Miho heard her thoughts, they would accuse her of sacrilege against the feminine mystique. After all, what respectable, self-appreciating girl- no, woman disliked shopping?
It shouldn't be a surprise though. She had always been surrounded by male testosterone and their brusque and rough ways. Her mother was always away on trips roaming the country negotiating deals here and there, which left Mr. Mazaki with the job of raising Anzu.
Until Mai, Shizuka, and Miho, the only friends the brunette dancer ever hung around with was Yuugi, Jounouchi, and Honda.
…Hardly the ones to teach her the exclusivity of womanhood and their secret ways.
So of course, she never understood why roaming a plaza for several hours throwing hard-earned money away on outfits worth two weeks of her salary was fun. However, here she was, watching one of her closest friends- male- trying to figure out if the periwinkle, hand-embroidered tie was better than the lavender-washed silk tie.
"Go for the lavender one," She answered flippantly, stifling a yawn. She reached behind and inelegantly scratched her thigh.
Ryou smiled apologetically and set the ties down, "I know this isn't very fun for you but thanks for coming with me. I needed a female's opinion,"
She grinned lightheartedly, "I'm probably not the best choice,"
"At least I don't go stir crazy when I'm with you," He offered, pulling a wallet out from his back pocket.
She frowned and stared at him suspiciously, "I can't figure out if that's a compliment or a set-down,"
Grinning cheekily at her, he handed the money to the cashier, who carefully placed the tie in a decorated box,
Anzu's temper immediately flared, "You-gah! Hey, I'll have you know, I am your-," Her ramblings were cut short.
He had planted a soft kiss on her lips and pulled back, turning his attention back to the cashier to accept his change and a pull-string bag.
"…girlfriend. You're not suppose to say unflattering things like that," She finished, pink coloring her cheeks. Looking away, she began power-walking hoping to rid the feeling of embarrassment at her outburst.
He followed, quickly falling into step with her. Then, he suddenly stopped short and gently took her wrist, pulling her slender form to his own, lightly muscular form, placing another kiss upon her lips, "You know I don't mean what I said, literally," he then placed his lips against her earlobe and whispered, "If anything, how you make me feel is the anti-thesis of not crazy,"
Her face now closely resembled a ripe apple, an instinctive response at their close proximity. She pulled back, uncomfortable at the affectionate gaze he pinned upon her with his chocolate-colored eyes, "P.D.A.- and that was hardly flattering, either," She grumbled as a sort of explanation.
Anzu wouldn't dare admit that all he had to do was stare at her with those eyes (gawd, those eyes!) and it made her want to abandon all proper etiquette and give in- to primal urges and wanton desires.
Bleh. She sounded like one of those putrid Harlequin romance novels.
She was Anzu Mazaki! Scarcely one to wax poetry- even in thoughts.
He chuckled but held onto her hand, regardless.
And Anzu let him; a flirty smile thrown in his general direction to antagonize.
Ryou returned with one of his own special smiles, an indication of what was to come later that night.
