"Take the car, I got a family." No you don't, your mind responded to your words. The only family you have is the crime lab. But you remind yourself you have a mother and a father back in California. No you don't. And it doesn't matter what the truth is or what isn't as you hear a laugh come from behind you.

"It don't mean shit to me." It doesn't, and the moments before the thump of your body declares another murder, you think of how you got here and what you would've changed.

You went to work as you always did, getting the news of a couple of more deaths. You go to the scene, another gunshot to the head, and watch as the cops tape it off. You process the evidence, trying to shrug off the eyes of the public and your coworkers. Back at the crime lab, you get a match to a man who's done this sort of thing before. But in the interrogation room, he makes a deal, and he's got the time down for three to five years. Just another day in which the murderer gains an upper hand.

So you end up driving home, tired as hell, and brain working at twice the speed. You wish you took up your coworkers offer to join them at the local diner. But you figure they're just being kind to the newbie, and end up calling a few friends from back when you had a life. They tell you the place, and after putting on fresh clothes, you head out into the parking lot, hoping a Saturday night out will ease your mind slightly. But just as you get the car door open, you feel something press against the back of your head, and hear the unmistakable click of a gun.

"Take the car, I got a family." No you don't.
