Dedication: I dunno, I was just reading a slash and this just struck me. But I guess it's to Katie, who hates slash and always will.
It Would Be So Easy
It would be so easy, eighteen year-old Remus Lupin mused, to fall in love with Madam Pomfrey. He sat where he often thought, or had time to think, in the Infirmary. This bed had been dubbed as his by the nurse as soon as she saw him that first full moon six years or so ago. She looked at this sweet honey eyed boy and gave him her best bed, the one that was just in front of the south facing window and caught the sunlight all day round - perfect for reading and caught the most breezes in the summer, but also close to the magical radiator for the winter.
Coming back from his tangent, Remus once again thought to himself that it would be so easy to fall in love with the young nurse. Let's face it, she was gorgeous, funny, caring, smart… the list could go on. She was a busty blonde who was amazingly thin. Her light grey eyes stood out and were just perfect. Not too harsh and not too watery. They had that motherly quality, the kind that spoke unconditional love and care.
The woman had her own brand of humour. A mix of dirty jokes and long funny stories. She often told them to Remus as she magically repaired his broken bones and bleeding skin. There was one about the Bishop and the Choir-Boy that made Remus blush every time he thought about it.
And was she ever caring! She really loved helping him with things and she did constantly fluff pillows (as all good nurses should but never do) and there was the whole unconditional love thing going on in her eyes. Remus was convinced that the tough nurse had a soft spot for him. She always brightened when she saw him smile as he got better. She also slipped him chocolate from her private stash. (Second drawer on the right side of the desk, password operated of course.)
You had to be smart to be a medi-witch, no two ways about it. Also, there were times when the pair could be seen arguing over philosophy and literature (and to keep up a debate over two of Remus's favourite subjects you really did have to be smart, no two ways about it.)
If you needed any more proof of how wonderful Madam Pomfrey was, she was young (twenty-five or so at the time) and she wore tight white robes with the healer sign emblazoned just by her heart area. The place that had every straight boy in the school staring at her whenever they could.
God, Remus asked himself, why can't I fall in love with her?
Because Remus knew someone else who was gorgeous. They had long shiny black hair, grey eyes to rival Madam Pomfrey and they were also amazingly thin.
He also knew someone else who was funny. They knew more dirty jokes than the nurse and could tell them in such a way that could make even the corruptive nurse blush.
As to caring and smart, there really is too much to list and describe. This person was just amazing okay? Amazing.
Why couldn't Remus Lupin fall in love with Madam Poppy Pomfrey, who captured every straight boy's midnight fantasies and hearts? Because Remus wasn't a straight boy and was in love with his best friend Sirius Black.
Oh Shit.
