Luna beamed when she had heard Peeves sing the song, but couldn't help thinking to herself: 'Does Harry really like me?"
Harry thought he would die. He couldn't believe the words he just blurted out. "How would you like to come to Slughorn's party with me tonight?"
Of course, Luna was surprised. She had never had a friend ask her to a party. She was asking him the question: "Slughorn's party? With you?"
When Harry had confirmed his invitation, Luna couldn't help herself from smiling. A real friend, a real party…
Harry had smiled, but in no time, the school knows of their 'date.' Thanks to Peeves…
Ginny Weasley, Luna's friend, couldn't help but be happy for her. Luna had been dreamy, but she heard her friend's brother, Ron, say, "You could've taken anyone! Anyone! And you chose Loony Lovegood?"
Ginny defended Luna, something she was grateful for. "Don't call her that Ron!"
Luna smiled inwardly. Soon enough, she would be with friends, and eventually, Harry Potter.
When Ginny told Harry that Luna was delighted, he immediately lost his regret of asking her 'out.' Sure, the school thinks that way, but in Harry's mind, it's just a friendship thing. Luna seemed pleased, and that's all that mattered.
'Whoa…where did that thought come from?' he thought getting embarrassed. He had feelings for Ginny, truthfully, but all of a sudden, a pang of emotion, love, went into his head.
He liked, sorry, loved…the loonybin…no, Luna. He loved Luna? He shook himself out of that thought just in time to hear Hermione and Parvati talk. Girls…you can never understand them. One minute they are biting each other's heads off, and the next, they are good friends. The thing is, he understood Luna, and that's the thing that counts.
