Gifts

Naruto Uzumaki is not a materialistic person.

He doesn't often give or receive gifts, preferring to spend time with his important people. Attention has always been, to him, more precious than gold.

…Or ramen, as the case may be.

He does, however, have some treasured possessions.

Iruka-sensei's hitai-ate was his first, the sign of a proud father.

Tsunade-baba's necklace was his second, the symbol of a mother's faith.

His third was actually given before these, though it took years for him to recognise it's worth.

Now, training with the Ero-sennin in the woods, so very far away from all he knows, Naruto performs his own special nighttime prayer.

A touch to his forehead protector,

Make sure his students pay attention.

A touch to his necklace,

Let the Anbu catch her before she gets too deep into debt.

And a memory, of the taste of onigiri on his lips,

And keep that bastard alive until I can come back and beat the crap out of him.

A/N: This was definitely better than my last one. I think. Just to be clear, I didn't intend for there to be any pairings mentioned in this one, it was simply meant to reflect the three most important…ah, 'gifts' Naruto receives, and how they reflect the people who give them. Sasuke's was ambiguous because…well, he is.

Also, I was tempted to put for Iruka; 'Don't let Kakashi-pervert catch him alone at night' but, maybe next time. Opinions, people?
