Disclaimer: I don't own Lord of the Rings, they belong to J.R.R. Tolkien nor do I own any of the characters.
Author's Note: This is movie verse and is set during the scene where Aragorn is walking down the rows of people after his coronation and he sees Arwen again. Read and review if you like but I'll only use flames to incinerate brownies. Thank you!
Grown up
I watch as he walks down the rows of people, greeting his friends and allies.
Gone is the little boy who's mother brought him to Rivendell so that he could grow in safety, gone is the young man who left Rivendell to prove himself worthy of my daughter's hand, in their place is King Elessar of Gondor.
And in a moment he will be where we are standing.
I look at my daughter, Arwen Undomiel, Evenstar of her people and who looks much like Luthien. I can't help but remember the end to Luthien's tale.
She loves Aragorn with all of her heart and she will give up her immortality for him.
I've begged her not to do it; I've begged her to go to the Undying Lands where her love would stay forever green but to no avail.
I want to protect her from everything painful in Middle Earth; I want her to stay innocent of all the evils in our world but I know I can't protect her forever.
She's grown now, she can make her own choices and she will marry Aragorn with or without my blessings.
I love her so much and I love Aragorn like a son.
Someone is speaking in elfish in front of us; I look up and see Aragorn talking to Legolas.
The younger elf half turns and Aragorn's gaze goes past his shoulder and he sees us.
As he starts towards us, a look of utter amazement on his face, I lean toward Arwen.
I have all ready rehearsed a speech in my mind that is telling her she can marry him and that I am letting her go to make her own choices.
But all I can get past the lump in my throat is, "Good-bye."
My little girl is grown up now and soon she will be gone.
Fin.
