Tristan is waiting against the wall for Rory. As she walks past, he walks next to her.
"So I'm a little tired of this game." He said this, not even able to stop her for one second.
"What game?" Rory's annoyance was visible in the statement.
"Are we meeting there or what?"
"What are you talking about?" She glanced at him, shooting him an irritated look.
"The concert's tonight."
'Oh, the PJ Harvey concert.' Rory thought, then told him "Well I hope you and the empty seat next to you have a lot of fun."
"I'm started to get a little irritated here."
"So am I." She stopped walking and turned to him, blue eyes blazing.
"What are you mad about?" He asked, stopping too.
"You've been telling everyone that I'm going to this thing with you." She exclaimed.
"Just a couple." He shrugged.
"You told Paris. Paris and I had just started getting along and now she hates me again." 'Huh?! That doesn't even make any sense! UGH!'
Not even wondering why the subject was suddenly shot in Paris' direction, he replied, "Well, the damage is done. You might as well go to PJ Harvey with me."
"Never never. I am never going anywhere with you ever." She didn't see the hurt look etched on Tristan's face.
"You know, these tickets cost me a fortune." 'DuGrey, seriously, fortune?'
"They cost your daddy a fortune." 'Rory, what's wrong with you? That was cruel!'
"I don't even know anybody else who's even into this stupid guy." 'Nice comeback, pathetic dweeb.'
Rory inwardly found this amusing but she's still irritated. "PJ Harvey's a woman."
Before she starts walking away again, Tristan grabbed Rory's books as a last resort.
"What are you doing?" 'Did he just grabbed my books from me? Immature junior!'
"You'll get them back when you agree to go with me." 'You're so desperate to do this, DuGrey. You better start praying that she says yes, and that other people don't care about this if you get dissed.'
Exasperated, she sighed and said, "You're pathetic Tristan. Keep the books. I'm leaving." She turned and saw Dean in the parking lot. "Dean?" He turned away from her. She ran to him. "Dean. What are you doing here?"
"I'm leaving." He said, spitefully.
"Don't go."
"I shouldn't have come."
"No wait."
"I feel like an idiot."
Inwardly, a voice said to Rory, 'Well, you are.' "Why?"
"'Cause I come all the way out here and I see you with him. That's just great."
"No, Tristan was just . . ." She trailed off. Not knowing what to say. Because what was she supposed to say? That this incredibly stupid guy bought two tickets to a concert SHE was supposed to see with him as a thoughtful gesture. Not even Dean knew she liked PJ Harvey, but Tristan did. Rory started to feel guilty, but shook it off. Dean matter to her. Not Tristan.
"I don't care."
"No listen."
"He's got your books Rory."
"But he took them and wouldn't give them back. Please just tell me why you're here." Rory was getting impacient and a nagging feeling started to grow in the pit of her stomach.
"I don't even know."
"Yes you do." She insisted.
"'Cause I thought you . . Forget it."
"No say it."
"I thought you were trying to talk to me."
"Oh."
"I mean, you came to my house."
"That wasn't me."
"It was you."
"It must've been someone that looked like me."
"My sister recognized you from the pictures in my box."
"In what box?"
"The box of stuff I have of us. Pictures and letters and everything from you."
"You have a Rory box?" Something triggered in her memory, 'Have you seen his notebook? That's a step away from stalking!' Creepy.
"And what was going on at the town meeting, all that stuff about writing a song?"
"I don't know what I was talking about." 'Get to the point, Bag Boy!'
"That had nothing to do with me? Well I must have imagined it all then. Your boyfriend's waiting."
Not even thinking twice, she blurted out, "He's not my boyfriend. I hate him." The last part however, she wasn't sure. Actually she wasn't sure ANY of the two is true. She kissed him not long ago... HE was there when Dean broke up with her. HE was concerned that he bit her lip, or did something wrong. Dean did not even care why saying those three words was hard for her. Plus, he kissed her slowly. With passion that carried a message. 'I am madly in love with you.' His voice flew in her mind during their kiss. Then she heard herself say back, 'Well, good luck with that.' Then, she pulled away... because she was afraid he'll confess.
During this, Tristan just watched silently from the background and started heading towards them.
"Whatever."
More so, she was afraid what would happen, because SHE felt the same way. But, Dean. She deeply cared for him. And didn't want him to think that he meant nothing to her. Because he did. But Tristan... if there's a scale, he outweighs Dean.
"Dean." And she's afraid to admit that.
"What."
"Stop." Her mind and subconscious fought, 'Stop being an idiot! You're making a big mistake, Rory.'
"Why."
Then Tristan decided to intervene. He said, softly his voice slightly cracking, and shoving her books in his hands, "Because, she loves you."
He turned to Rory and took her hand, putting two tickets in it. "Have a great time." She looked in his defeated, non twinkling sapphire eyes as he did this. She saw the silent message, "I love you, and I'm letting you go. But remember I love you."
Then Tristan walked away, this time Rory admitted it. Everytime they separate, since the first day of school, he took a part of her with him. Only this time, he took all of her heart with him. Because she loved him too.
