Disclaimer: Don't own nor profit from Naruto, though I'm enjoying the plot so far. It'll be a real pity if the anime turns out to be vastly different from the manga.
My General Disclaimer: Don't mix goth/rock with dance/pop after a long day of being lethargic, too much Internet, Marvel comics, caffeine and not enough sleep. The results are inevitably something like this.
That said, it's a lot of fun.
Outside, Looking In
by Cynical Chaos
Who is to blame for the ostracism of one person by an entire village of otherwise level headed and, by all definitions, sane people? Can the great war, in which hundreds died, be blamed for it? Was it the attack of Kyuubi? Or was it the fact that the people of Konoha were just plain ole' sick and tired of having their people killed off just as they had managed to get accustomed to peace?
Even so, that is no reason to hate and fear the child whose body housed the great kitsune.
Does the knowledge that one has great power make one a threat? Or is more than that? Does the knowledge of one's power coupled with a willingness to use this power make one a threat? To those who often term themselves as "the good guys," the argument is invariably for "yay." They, the aforementioned "good guys," see themselves as some sort of "hero to mankind" as they "rid the world of a great evil." They, however, seem to forget that no matter how great the evil appears to be, it always will have those who will care for it, even if that "care" is only on a selfish, self-centered level. They, the self appointed paladins, never see the people around what they narrow mindedly term as evil. If they do, then they do so only to identify further threats to their selfish utopian world. Those trying to mold the world into their vision of heaven have evidently forgotten that the world's ground state of existence is hell.
But they aren't the only ones to blame. At least they try to break out of a bleak and pointless existence of monotony, even if the way in which they do so ends up offending everyone around them. But it's precisely those who look down on any who try to redefine life who have mired life down. And not just their own lives, but the lives of everyone with whom they come into contact with. These are the people who the Jinchuuriki ended up with. Fools who can't see past their own need for stagnated order, that they can't comprehend something like this child.
His drives, needs, feelings, they are all his own. They are no one else's, which is why he goes about misunderstood and feared. They say that they fear what would happen if Kyuubi was unleashed, if the child harnessed the Kitsune's power for himself, but what they really fear is a change to their lifestyle.
Such a change is inevitable. No matter how training, no matter how much supervision, Kyuubi will become free. Whether Naruto releases the demon willingly or if it destroys him, in body if not in mind also, it will be loosed upon this world once again. And that was our goal. To lose such a power into the world, but also to control such a power.
Did we fail?
Who can know?
Kyuubi is free, that is all I know, and I die content in the knowledge that at least one creature will understand and appreciate what all of us worked so hard to accomplish.
