"...What?" Tonks gasped, not daring to believe what her lover - her lover! - had just said. Remus was lying, playing tricks with her; never would he -

"I am alive for Harry now," the weak voice repeated, barely audible above the crackling of the flames in the hearth of 12 Grimmauld Place. "All my other reasons for living are dead and gone. James, Peter, Lily...Sirius...Dumbledore..." His voice cracked, and he dipped his head lower, letting his graying hair hide his emotions. "I am alive only for Harry. No one else"

Tonks felt herself shattering. She was not stupid; she understood what Remus was telling her. She turned on her heels and fled, slamming the door and awakening the portrait of Mrs. Black, screaming in fury.
