A/N Someone had to...

"Well."

Jacob Carter sat down at his daughter's lab bench and delicately wiped a tear on his sleeve. Selmak chortled in his head and reminded him that it was he who had opposed buying the book in the first place. 'Pride of the Tok'ra you are, wanting to read books about teenage wizards' he scolded her, but both new he meant it playfully.

He fingered his copy of Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince thoughtfully, not even stirring as klaxons went off; signalling that his daughter was home from her mission. Sure enough, a few minutes later footsteps were heard coming down the corridor, and Major Samantha Carter burst into her lab.

"Dad!"

"Sam!"

They embraced and Sam frowned as she noticed a new object on her lab bench.

"Dad?" She pulled away to study Jacob closely. "How long have you been on Earth?"

Jacob tried to look nonchalant as he replied; "About 24 hours." Sam's eyes focussed on the calendar on the wall. So he arrived Saturday 16th.

"And I take it you took a stroll off base?"

"Just a little look round town. See what I was missing, that sorta thing." He smiled sheepishly at her.

"Missing much then?" She queried, gesturing for him to head out the door.

"The other five books. Fancy a shopping trip tomorrow?" he asked, heading out the door.

Sam smiled and shook her head despairingly. Grabbing her bag and car keys as she left the room, she carefully adjusted her belongings to cover the thick hardback book hidden inside.
