Author's Notes: Written while listening to Moby's "Down Slow." It's foreboding elevator-music.
Mike Teavee's been my favourite in the book and both movies. He needs more attention. ;o
The Great Glass Elevator is looking increasingly breakable, and the nauseating lurching of unstable, impossible machinery doesn't calm the uneasy tension. Inhaling sicky-sweet air doesn't help, either, and a wave of vertigo hits him when he leans against nothingness.
He can't rest his weight against the wall; it's dotted with thousands of buttons in every direction. Pressing anything would only spur more haphazard, chaotic careening. He's surrounded by endless options and no positive results. For the first time in his life, he despises adrenaline.
A quick glance to his left: the other kid, the only other left, the only other obstacle left. It takes him a second to remember to glare. Inevitable; the invisible clock is ticking -- this isn't a game anymore.
it's (and) him (that) or (psychotic) me (freak) it's (doesn't) him (like) or (mumblers) me
Mike hasn't eaten any candy, but still feels sick to his stomach.
