Why did it need to be so large? Polly glared at her new ring, flexing her fingers under its weight.

In her opinion, the four caret solitaire was an ostentatious sign of ownership. Yet its showiness didn't surprise her. Like Seb's ideal wedding, the ring was a perfect opportunity to display both Polly and his status in society.

Her ideal wedding was much simpler: he, she, and a civic ceremony. Polly frowned. If she were being honest, her ideal wedding wouldn't include Sebastian Leroy.

What was she thinking, agreeing to marry him?

The diamond shone, but that wasn't answer enough.
