So perhaps picking a spork up is the same thing as signifying a three-way relationship. Yuuri wonders if he should have expected that. Or at least suspected. Two duels and one engagement caused by slight social missteps; good lord, this world is going to be the death of him one day.
The spork incident with Elizabeth had been the feather that broke the camel's back. For days afterwards, Yuuri had been wary of touching the slightest toothpick in fear it might bring disastrous causalities and finally, he had given in and asked for an (much needed) etiquette lesson. He'd gone to Conrad, of course, figuring the man would be the safest to ask.
He doesn't know how he ended up with Wolfram instead. Just...somehow, Wolfram had looked utterly offended and somewhat hurt when he heard Yuuri ask someone else than him and had ranted about proper husband relationships until Yuuri has sighed and given in.
And boy, Yuuri had never suspected so much could be told with mere cutlery.
"It's ridiculous!" he exclaims, causing Wolfram to stop going on and on about the dos and don'ts with silverware for a moment. "How can a misplaced teaspoon indicate a divorce?"
Wolfram narrows his eyes in irritation, holding up a spoon to demonstrate. "Didn't you listen? If the husband or wife doesn't care to tell the servants how the silverware should be placed, it's obvious the married couple don't love each other!" With that, he continues by picking up the next object on his list and waving with it.
"That's what I meant with ridiculous," Yuuri mutters, closing his eyes and idly playing with an abandoned spork as he tries to listen. His thoughts wander despite that and he's in the middle of a daydream of an exciting baseball game when he hears Wolfram…gasp. He opens his eyes.
Wolfram's cheeks are red, appearing to try for a deep blood-red. And he's staring at--
Yuuri blinks and realizes that his hand is still on the spork, thumb finger playing with the points. It takes a moment before his mind registers. Then.
"Argh!" He withdraws his hand, patting it fearfully. "Whatever I said, I didn't mean it! Err." He hesitates, curious despite himself. "What did I say?"
His worst fears are confirmed as Wolfram, still a bit flushed, smiles broadly.
