Pretend
A Get Backers fanfic by Rabid Lola
A/N: Look! I wrote a drabble! 0.0 A what-if situation. Explanation as to where this came from at the bottom.
The worst is when they have to pretend.
They hate it at times like these, like now. Kazuki smiles at Juubei, unaware of what will happen next.
"Juubei, I believe you haven't met Ren?"
Ren has heard of this man, Kazuki's best friend, and how he escaped from the pseudo-Grand Canyon. She expects what will happen next.
Juubei has heard about this girl from Toshiki—and he's not sure what will happen. He has the vaguest of ill feelings about it.
"No, I haven't."
He puts out his hand, carefully, uncertainly, and she puts out hers, brave and resigned. And Kazuki winces, and realizes his mistake, when the blind man's hand passes straight through the girl's.
Ren draws her hand away, a queer, forced sort of smile twisting out of her. Juubei, out of sympathy and out of honor, says, "It's nice to meet you, Ren-san."
They know it won't change anything, and they know it won't do any good.
The worst is when they have to pretend.
…--EnD--…
Speculative, again, and probably easily contested, but it popped up in my head that if Juubei were able to get out of the Grand Canyon, because of his blindness, does it mean none of the virtual things in Mugenjou would fool him?
It
could be contested, of course, because Mugenjou's virtual reality
isn't always based on sight. And, sorry it's short. I'll have a longer one up next time. :) School keeps me way busy.
