Silence is Golden
"Ha!" Yahiko exclaimed, swinging his bokken in a particularly hard stroke. He did a few more and then decided to take a break. He walked around the porch, and almost walked into the house to get water, when something made him stop short, freezing in his tracks. Or should I say, someone.
For there sat poor Kenshin, scrubbing diligently at the laundry, while Kaoru talked to him. And talked. And talked. Did I mention she was talking?
"Oh Kenshin, it's such a beautiful day isn't it? The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, the flowers are all out…don't you just love spring? It's my favorite season! No too hot, not too cold. But then again, I like fall a lot too…with all the pretty changing leaves…that reminds me of a summer I spent with my parents when I was five…" She said in one breath.
Kenshin sent Yahiko a help-me look while Kaoru was rambling. But he knew better than to interrupt her now...several bonks on the head and long 'chats' had taught him that. He shrugged at Kenshin apologetically, and sent him a pitying smile. He then watched as Kaoru continued on.
"…You know, I got the prettiest kimono yesterday…it was kind of expensive, but it's a nice material…it had the prettiest obi with it, and the woman who sold it to me said it brought out my eyes! Isn't that nice of her? Oh that reminds me, I should go try it on and show you! I'll be right back…"
Yahiko approached Kenshin as she bounded through the open shoji. He whistled.
"You know, I honestly think she just doesn't breath." He commented. Kenshin nodded, amazed with the fact that she could go from talking about seasons to old memories with her parents to her new kimono in about five seconds. He hung up a gi on the laundry line.
"You know what, Kenshin? I just figured something out."
"What is it, Yahiko?" Kenshin asked, talking for the first time in over an hour.
"If silence is golden, then no wonder she's poor!"
Kenshin pondered this for a moment, before nodding and muttering and 'oro' under his breath.
