"Wait Alec, I have something to give you." Max pulled on Alec's arm, keeping him from heading back to HQ.
She smiled nervously. "What is it Maxie, goodbye kiss?" Alec smirked.
She raised an eyebrow, but pulled something out her pocket.
"I want you to have this." It was a worn picture, faded and ripped. A Blue Lady, with her heart bleeding.
Alec took it, looking at it intently. Finally, he looked up, a questioning look on his face.
"It…it was Ben's. I want you to have it."
His eyes widened slightly and looked back down at the religious picture.
"It was so weird," Max continued, "One night, when he couldn't sleep, a cleaner came in. Pulled out this picture, gave to him, and then left. We never saw him again. Ben said he must have been an angel. An angel the Blue Lady sent to watch us and protect us. Letting us know she loved us."
People who were listening were silent, as Alec watched Max. "I can't take this Max."
"Please, I want you to have it. Just in case-…please" she finished quietly.
Then he got it. She thought she wouldn't be coming back from this one. A counter attack against the familiars she was getting ready to die and was giving him something to remember her by.
"No, no way. This is yours. You're coming back Max, you hear me?"
"Alec please." He scowled and Max sighed. "Fine, keep it for me. Protect it until I'm back."
He was still frowning at her.
"He was my closest brother, Alec. I loved him with all my heart. Or, you know, what we knew as love. And in all this time, this is the only thing I have to remember any of my family. They're all gone, and this is what I have of them." She paused, taking a breath. "Ben was my brother, not by genetics or blood or whatever…but he was my brother. And you're his brother, his twin. That makes you my brother. I want you to have this."
They looked each other in eye, before Alec nodded slowly, tucking the picture in his breast pocket. Patting slightly, he smiled at her slowly.
Max pulled him in for a hug, and turned abruptly, walking away and getting into one of the raid vehicles.
"Goodbye Max."
