The Fork in the Road

By: Larien

Disclaimer- I own them not. But you knew that.

A/N- This was random. I was inspired while listening the last song during the Fellowship of the Ring, and well, I started typing as I was listening and this is what happened. It's sketchy, for I just went with it. But let me know what you think. I'm no poet, so I'd appreciate criticism or praise all the like. Enjoy!
Here at last the two roads split.

Upon which I know not my feet should travel.

Bilbo told me I might be swept away upon open roads

But he did not say upon which my feet should choose

Should there be two

Sure danger lies ahead

Either way I choose

Friends behind me on one

My courage my only companion should I choose another.

I know not which way to choose

Gandalf Gray, where are you now?

You once traveled this earth,

Knew each road through and through

And yet here stands this hobbit

So small and naïve

Why has fate chosen one who knows so little?

Peril surrounds me, death at each door

I wish I knew more for I am denied that comfort

So for now it remains my feet and I

And these two roads so torn.

But both will lead to the same place

It is where we were all sent

So why now must we split?

I have friends waiting

I have destruction waiting

I have fate waiting…

I know now where I go

Friend or foe, this is my journey

I shall not let them take my peril

My fate has sent me here, to choose

Not them

So now, dear road, on we go

Just my feet and I

A hobbit alone in this world so vast

No guard, just my courage

It's not encouraging

I'm rather afraid

But we must face each road

And forgo what it offers

At least I will not lead others into peril as well

This is my darkness,

My journey

This is my road.

Good bye other road

I will never know where you lead

Perhaps those that travel it

I will meet again

Onward, oh feet

Towards what I know not

For now we wander,

And try not to be swept away

There is no roadblock now

No regrets, no second-guessing

Just the winding path before

And darkness above.

To light we strive

And to bring back ends meet

To find that fork in the road

That will bring us back here

Where there will be no more road

No more death, no more destruction

No more peril

No more decisions, dear feet, for you

But now we are called

Called forward to meet destiny

Farwell old road I start anew

And onward feet, I tell you now

I have no hope for us

For we have no power alone.

Let us hope then for another path

A path that will surely bring us light

And goodness

And a way back home

Where the only fork we face

Is the one for our dinner

For already I miss the meal

So tonight I dine alone

On darkness and fate

And foot and stone.
