Eternal Waiting
Daddy said he would come back, he said he would return, he gave me a parting kiss on the forehead and Mommy a forget-me-not look. I could smell her tears on the bitter winter air, and yet no liquid diamond did she show.
Every night she would tuck me in and beside me sit. "Be strong." She said, with a true yet trembling smile, but though she looked me straight in the eyes, those words were directed at her, and every night I would reply.
"You are."
We tried not to look longingly at windows, waiting Daddy's return, but each time a flash of silver was seen, the word Inu-yasha fell off my mother's very heart, her very soul. She would look up to the moon, as if she wanted to scream, to howl at its beautiful reminder of what once was that is no more.
I watched the time past, things were never the same. Our little family with a missing piece, Mommy and I grew closer, both knew, understanding souls. I still had hope, I knew, light ahead I could see, yet for Mommy her future was out in the cold rain. The sand in the hourglass trickled past, and eventually I had to ask. "Where's Daddy?" My soft voice was heard as Mommy turned to look at me in return. "Onigumo´s war, my angel. Fighting for us all." She replied, and I looked up at the trust in her tone. "Is he going to die for us?" I managed the bravery to go on. Mommy smiled sadly, a flickering in the light of her eyes. "I don´t know." Was what she said, and I´m sure it´s the truth that she told. "But I´d much prefer he live for us." Barely a whisper yet with my dog ears I captured the sound. I thought about those words and replied, "Me too." Earning me another smile.
Seasons passed and our eyes matured with pain, but never did mom break down. She would look at me and tell me it was because she wasn´t alone.
Daddy said he would come back, he said he would return, yet the telegram came one day, and the flickering candle went out. We broke down, and never say Daddy again.
