Chapter One
New Experiences
Adam Matthews was sitting on booth inside a compartment of a large red train called the Hogwarts Express. He was sitting quietly with his eyes wide open, staring at the empty booth across from him. Adam felt extremely confused and couldn't remember most of the day. He racked his brain to try and remember how he had come to be in such a strange vehicle heading toward some kind of school for magic.
A week ago Adam had received an invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His uncle had come over the next day and gave him a bone-crushing hug. Adam was very confused as his uncle explained that they were both wizards. Two days later Adam hugged his parents and went with his uncle to a peculiar place called, Diagon Alley, to collect supplies for Hogwarts.
The days before the present time were filled with magical new experiences that filled Adam with joy. He had ate peculiar foods, met amazing people, watched magic, and saw a sleek black broomstick (which he was surprised to find that it was used for flying) Eventually, it had been time to board the train to Hogwarts and Adam waved to his family as the train departed.
Now Adam looked out the window as if he was searching for an answer to the question he kept asking himself: Is this just a big mistake? How could anyone be sure that he had magical powers? He had never cast any spells, brewed a potion, or flew a broomstick. He sighed silently and continued to stare blankly out the window.
Suddenly the door to his compartment opened and a boy with blonde hair and a black robe walked in. The boy held out his hand, "Tim Linch." He said with a smile. Adam shook his hand and smiled back. "You're a red head... you're not another Weasly are you?" Tim joked. "Afraid not. I've never heard of them. My name is Adam Matthews." Replied Adam. "Nice to meet you. You don't look British? American?" Said Tim. Adam nodded and said, "Yeah, I moved here with my family about three years ago." Tim then said, "I see. So, you're a first year? So is my little brother... I'm in the second year at Hogwarts. You'll love this place," He smiled then continued, "I'll go fetch my brother, hang on." Tim gave a wink and left the compartment. A few seconds later he returned with another blonde haired boy, he was about a head shorter than him. "Adam, Bryan. Bryan, Adam. See you lot later." With that Tim left the compartment.
Bryan sat down across from Adam and they began to talk. After talking for several hours they noticed that their was a large castle coming up in the distance. Bryan swallowed a chocolate frog whole and said, "It's a wicked place isn't it? I can't wait take flying lessons. I reckon I'll get Gryffindor for my house... that's what my brother is in. What house do you reckon you'll get?" Adam shrugged and said, "I have no clue... I just hope we get in the same house." Tim then bursted in and said, "You two should best get into robes now. We're nearly there." Tim left and Adam and Bryan got their trunks down. The train then came to a halt.
