He found her sitting at the edge of the lake, gazing across the sun-dappled water at the white tomb. She was adorned in her usual strange jewelry; so lost was she in her daydreams that she did not notice him approaching.
"Hi, Luna," he said, joining her on the soft grass.
She turned her head and smiled gently. "Hello, Neville. Isn't it a lovely day?"
"I guess so, yeah," he answered. "Kind of sad, but not so bad." She did not reply, so he tried again. "Did you hear that Ron's brother is getting married?"
"Yes," she said, "to that pretty French girl."
"And Professor Lupin, he and Tonks are together now."
"I'm happy for them. I liked Professor Lupin much more than most of the other teachers. He never laughed at me."
Neville fumbled embarrassedly for something to say. "I'm sure the teachers don't laugh at you."
"Are you?" Luna said peacefully. "I thought they did. If they do I don't really mind it too much."
He moved to lean back, propped up on his elbows, and his hand brushed hers. "Sorry."
"That's alright." She smiled happily, saying, "Isn't it wonderful, though, how people are finding ways to be happy even though bad things have happened? I thought I'd seen a few little Fluffdoves around."
"Er... what?" Neville asked, assuming she was talking about another one of her silly, made-up animals.
"Fluffdoves," she enthused. "They're lovely little pink creatures that float about on little tiny wings. They're often attracted to sadness, but if they touch you you'll feel happy and maybe fall in love with someone."
"You think that's what's caused it all?"
"Of course. How else do you explain it?" She fixed her large eyes on his.
"Luna," he said, sitting up again and taking her hand, "I think one of them got me."
