IMPORTANT! READ! Okay, last chapter I said Breanna Potter woke up from a coma, but I decided to change it to Brittany, and a completely different thing that what I had planned, so keep that in mind when reading the chapter.
Chapter Eleven: Brittany
Harry knocked on the door to Professor Dumbledore's office, currently obtained by Thomas, waiting for permission to enter. Harry hadn't know the man for long, but you could he was related to Dumbledore, looked like him, and had that same quality that Albus had of making you feel completely safe, and trusting him without questioning it. He entered once he heard the ancient voice say enter. They had had come to school grounds and were almost immediately told that the headmaster wanted to see them. Harry didn't know what it was about, and didn't really care. He took Brian's hand before entering the room, smiling.
"Sit down," Albus said motioning at the seats in front of him. Harry sat down pulling Brian onto his lap while Remus sat down beside him. "Remus," he addressed the older man, "do you remember a woman named Brittany Porter?"
Remus nodded, but didn't say anything. Harry looked at him to see his face downcast and eye solemn. "Yes, how could I forget? Why?"
"Because she has come out of her coma and wants to see you, and Harry," Thomas said quietly.
Remus blinked at him stupidly, jaw hanging open. "She... she... what?"
"I know it's hard to believe, but it's true. She's still in the hospital, but she wants to see you, and she asked me to tell you that her answer is yes. She said you would know what that meant, I have no clue, but I can tell you do.
"But she's been in a come for sixteen years now… how can someone wake up after such a long time?" Remus said incredulously.
"I don't know, but however it's possible she did. She's wide awake, perfectly healthy actually, but the doctors, of course, want to keep her there to try to figure out what happened though I'm almost positive they won't find anything," Thomas said in that annoying way he had when he knew something that you didn't just like Dumbledore has when he was alive.
"What do you mean? Do you know why she woke up?" Remus asked quickly.
"You sound as if you don't want her awake," he remarked mildly.
"It's not that, it's the complete opposite. Ever since the accident I've always wanted her to here so we could get married and have kids, but now that she finally is… it just seems unreal," he said quietly looking to the old man for understanding and compassion.
"I know, my dear boy, really I do," he said quietly meeting the werewolves gaze head on." He paused before continuing. "I do not how she woke up, but I have a theory. I think that when Voldemort attacked her house he put a spell on her, unintentionally, that would trap her in a coma until the day he died. I know there are a few spells that can do that, and from the time the doctor's gave me from when she woke up, it was the exact time that Voldemort died."
Remus sighed loudly and slumped in the chair. He couldn't believe this. They could finally be together again. They could start a family, maybe not have children of their own, but they could adopt someone. Remus didn't want to risk children of his own; he was afraid that he would pass his lycanthropy onto them.
"Umm," Harry started uncertainly, "can someone tell me who Brittany is before I go and meet her?" Remus started at hearing his voice. He had forgotten Harry was there along with Brian. Remus swallowed before answering.
"She's an old girlfriend of mine, well actually the only girlfriend I eve had. I had always been shy, and didn't like to date much anyway. I was always scared someone would discover I was a werewolf. Brittany was actually one of your mother's friends, Harry. I don't know how, but both of them found out I was a werewolf. They probably pieced it together like Hermione did. Your mother was a very smart woman, much like Hermione though not quite as… intense as Hermione is. Anyway, she asked me, knowing I was a werewolf, but not caring. I was going to say no, but not only because of that. We had talked in the past and were friends, and I didn't think it was such a good idea to date friends. I was going to say no, but before I could say anything she told me she knew I was a werewolf, but didn't care, and was positive that out friendship wouldn't be ruined by going out with each other. That was sixth year. We dated that year, summer break, seventh year, and continued to date after we had graduated. We were twenty when I asked her to marry me. I didn't do it face to face. I had written her a letter proposing to her in that, but that day Voldemort attacked her house and she went into a coma."
Harry stayed silent for a minute processing all of that. "So, when Thomas said she said her answer was yes, she was saying yes to your proposal? Also, how does she know me?"
"You were a month old when Voldemort attacked. She came over with me a lot to your parents to see them and you," Remus replied still looking dazed. "Does she really want to see me? Am I not dreaming?"
"You're not dreaming, Remus, I can assure you of that," Thomas said gently. "She really does want to see you. I told her you would be there sometime today. Did you want to go now? It's one now, and visiting hours end at seven," he said with a note of finality in his voice. He turned to Harry.
"I'll keep Brian with me here though I doubt he'll know the difference seeing how sound asleep he is." His voice was distinctly amused. Harry smiled at him, and then down at the sleeping child nestled contently against him.
He had felt Brian's breathing even and deepen not long after they had sat down, curling into the shape of Harry's body, head resting against his chest. Harry got up, careful not to jostle Brian much, and reluctantly handed him over to the headmaster's waiting arms. He didn't want to give him up. Harry had felt better, happy, with Brian's warm body curled against, and the complete trust that seemed to come off the child in waves.
"Will you tell I said good-bye?" Harry asked suddenly looking intently at Thomas. The expression in Harry's eyes was unreadable, but Dumbledore nodded nonetheless. "Thank you," Harry said gratefully. He turned to where Remus was standing at the fireplace, ready to floo to the hospital.
Remus stepped in, said the words to go to the hospital, and was whisked away in a plume of green flames. Harry went next, stepping out of the fireplace to see Remus dusting off his clothes. Harry walked over to him, and was about o say something, but a man dressed in a Healer's uniform came over.
"Are you Remus Lupin and Harry Potter?" They both nodded. "Follow me. I'll take you Brittany's room." They followed him through identical white hallways for fifteen minutes before finally stopping at a room. "I'll leave you here," he said, nodded at them, and then left.
Harry looked to Remus waiting for him to open the door. Harry waited a few more seconds before Remus opened the door. Remus nervously entered the room with Harry close behind. Harry closed the door quietly behind him, keeping his distance letting Remus go to the woman lying on the bed.
She had naturally blonde shoulder length hair with deep blue eyes. The tight covers over her showed off her slim frame.
Harry watched from his position at the door as Remus walked over the bed. He sat down on the bed, taking her hand, and said something that Harry couldn't hear. Harry did hear the sob that came from his guardian. Harry stayed where he was as Remus wrapped the woman into a hug, and began to kiss her. They did for about five minutes while Harry waited patiently for them to stop.
They broke apart, and Harry could hear them laughing. "Harry," Remus said voice congested, tears still on his cheeks, "this is Brittany, the love of my life. Come over here so we can talk."
Harry walked to them and stood awkwardly beside the bed. "Wow, you've grown. You were only a month old that last time I saw you. You've changed so much." Harry simply smiled at her unsure of what to say.
It took Harry a few minutes to get over his awkwardness, but soon they were all laughing and joking around like they had know each other their whole lives. They stayed until visiting hours were over before returning to the headmaster's office.
Harry had expected to see Thomas sitting at the desk, but not with a sobbing Brian in his arms. Harry immediately walked over to him, alarmed. "What's wrong? What happ-"
His sentence got cut off as Brian, recognizing Harry's voice, launched himself out of Thomas's arms into Harry's. Harry stumbled, surprised, but kept his balance. Harry walked around the desk to sit in one of the chairs.
"He wore up screaming about fifteen minutes ago. I think he had a nightmare," Thomas said from behind his desk. "He kept saying he wanted you."
Harry turned his attention to the sobbing child in his arms, tears wetting his shirt. Harry rubbed his back in small circles, all the while talking soothingly to him. Brian continued to cry for another five minutes before finally calming down, only a few tears leaking out of his eyes. Harry gave him a very tight hug, before pulling back a little trying to see him better. This turned out to be a bad idea. Brian whimpered and clung to Harry tighter, pulling himself higher up in his arms, head resting on Harry's shoulder.
"Please don't leave me," he heard a very childish, tear filled voice whisper in his ear. Harry began to rock the child, alarmed by what he had said.
"I'm not going to leave you. Why would you think I would leave you?" Harry asked quietly, continuing to rub the child's back. "Hmm?" he pressed. Brian sniffed loudly.
"The scary man, Voldemort, he… he killed you, and you didn't come back, and I had to go live with my dad, and he was mad at me, and hurt me really bad! Please, don't leave," he said voice louder almost yelling, in between sobs. Harry held the child tighter.
"Shh, it's okay. I'm here. It's okay, no one is going to hurt you. I won't ever leave you, I promise. It was just a bad dream, it didn't really happen."
Harry continued to say thins like this for the next few minutes until Brian stopped crying. He didn't move from his position though, and Harry certainly wasn't going to make him.
"You okay now?" Harry asked quietly moving one of his hands to stoke Brian's hair. The child sniffed and nodded. Harry instinctively kissed him on the head.
"You all need to eat something. Brian slept through dinner, and I'm sure you and Remus haven't had anything to eat, have you?" Thomas said having already called a house elf to bring them some food. Both of them shook their heads. The house elf disappeared, appearing a minute later with a tray laden with food. Harry managed to coax Brian to sit in his lap so he could eat.
Dumbledore handed Harry a plate with food on it and two forks. "I figured he wasn't going to get of our lap so you might as well eat of the same plate since there isn't a place to set a second plate." Harry smiled his thanks at the old man, and began to eat.
