"Congratulations Serena!" Catty squealed, trampling over the nurses to get to her friend's side. "You're the first one of us to have a kid! I'm so happy for you." Serena gave a weak smile as she desperately tried to keep her emerald green eyes open long enough for all her friends to greet her. "Thanks Catty. When are you due?"
"Oh… any day now. I just want this kid out of me. Look how huge I am! I can't even fit into my fat pants." Serena laughed amusingly and turned to the nurse. "Can I see my baby, Now?"
The nurse nodded, and scurried out of the room to fetch the baby girl.
"I'm just so tired." Serena complained. But her face suddenly became serious. "Do you think… that she'll… you know, be a daughter or a follower? Oh god, I couldn't take it if she was a follower. It would be too awful."
"She might be a normal human" Catty offered, resting a hand on Serena's arm. The door swung open and Tianna, Jemina, and Vanessa walked in cautiously, making sure Serena was awake. When they saw that she was, they started cheering. "CONGRATULATIONS!" Tianna whooped, waving the pink balloons in the air. "You're a mom now!"
"Excuse Me…" An syrup sweet voice came from behind them. Jemina turned suspiciously and eyed the elderly woman that was dressed in what looked like a white Sunday church dress. "Serena Killingsworth?" She filed through the former-daughters and approached the shocked Serena.
"Y-Yes.
That's me." She said, anticipating what was going to happen next.
The woman smiled, and reached inside her purse, and pulled out a package. "Here you are. For your daughter Alana."
Serena's eyes shot up and met the woman's. "Who are you?" She asked.
The woman shrugged. "Most people call me Luna, its kind of my little nickname." She chuckled at this. "But I don't think I'll be seeing you for a while so I'll just let you be." She shut her pearl-like purse and walked gracefully out of the room, the musky scent of her flowery perfume, still clearly dangling in the air.
"Do you think…?" Vanessa broke the uncomfortable silence, but didn't bother to finish her sentence, since everyone was probably wondering the same thing.
"Are you going to open it?" Jemina asked. Serena's hands trembled as she lightly held the package in her pale hands. "Yes." She started to pick at the tape with her long sugar pink nails, until she carefully unwrapped it. inside, was a wooden box.
She took a deep breath and slowly opened the lid. She was expecting to find the familiar silver moon amulet inside the velvet lined box. But what she saw made her jerk away and let out a startled scream…
