Author's Note: Spoiling warnings for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Special Note: This is a short piece on Ginny's thoughts on Harry. There is also a companion piece that I've written about Harry's thoughts on Ginny, entitled Falling Rain. They are both, however, independent pieces and both need not be read in order to understand the other. Mists and Tears and Falling Rain simply happen at the same time.

Mists and Tears

Pitter, patter, pitter, patter; Ginny sighed at the constant noise of the rain on the roof of her house. She was lying, back on her bed, her red hair spread all around her, listening to the rain. Listening to the rain and thinking of him. Thinking of Harry Potter. It was all she had really done since Dumbledore's funeral and her return home.

She knew Harry's reasons for their breakup and she supported them. She loved Harry even more for what he had done, for doing what he was doing. Harry had broken up with her in order to protect her. He wanted to keep her from being a pawn to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

The ceiling she was staring at suddenly blurred as the tears welled in her eyes. She missed him so much. She had had a crush on him ever since she saw him on Platform nine and three-quarters, during Ron's first year. A childhood crush that had grown stronger after he had saved her from Riddle's grasp.

A childhood crush that had turned into understanding during her second year, a crush that had developed slowly into love as she had backed away from him and moved on with her life, a love that had deepened during her fourth year, during the age of the Dumbledore's Army. Harry had been a great teacher to all of them.

Now, this past year, her fifth year, he had finally kissed her. He had finally wanted to acknowledge her as someone he wanted to have in her life. She had been so happy. Although she and Harry both regretted the wasted years, it probably had been best for them both. They had both grown into the people they were because of the circumstances that had been present to them both.

She swallowed thickly as the tears started to poor down her cheeks. She knew he was back at the Dursley's and she wondered how awkward it would be when Harry came for Bill and Fleur's wedding. She could only hope that her family would survive long enough for there to be a wedding.

He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and his followers were killing more and more witches, wizards, and muggles everyday. She hoped for safety for her family and for Harry. Bill's face had been destroyed during the scuffle that had taken place at Hogwarts only days ago. Dumbledore hadn't even survived.

Ginny closed her eyes in squinted pain, allowing the darkness to overcome her. Sirius was dead, Dumbledore was dead, she could only hope that Harry wouldn't follow in their footsteps.

She hoped he would succeed against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and hopefully would have enough strength to embrace her lovingly once more.
