(Translator's note: The poem presented here was written on a badly damaged sheet of vellum, which, soon after the translation was completed, crumbled into dust and was thus destroyed. It is a sad fact that a great deal, if not the in fact a great majority, of historical texts have been similarly lost, simply by the ravages of time.
