Rebirth

I'll never forget the grand letter that came,

Delivered by owl, and bearing my name

Written in green ink, on a parchment scroll

And as I read the words, I finally felt whole.

Suddenly logic could be well applied;

I'd the explanation for which I had tried

Since childhood angers produced surreal

Occurrences I had dismissed as unreal.

Here was the truth: magic ran in my veins

And I needed to go off to school to be trained

And to hone the skills that were my birthright:

My entire world changed in the space of a night.

I was a witch—no more boring or plain

And in a new world, I had so much to gain!

Before I knew, I was whisked far away,

And made part of a truly magical display.

Hogwarts School was both enigma and dream;

Little really was as it had first seemed.

Floating ghosts, singing hats, portraits animated:

Mum and Dad were amazed when all this I related.

But for all of the wonders, this also was true:

As dazzled as I was, there were dangers, too.

Who would have thought the release of a troll

Would further a madman's nefarious goal?

I found true friends in that night's aftermath

Shielded by them in face of monster's wrath.

And after that, many adventures were had

By Gryffindor House's first-year triad.

And I became a part of something great,

Protecting both worlds from a terrible fate;

Yet, all I learnt that year, beginning to end,

Taught me the greatest magic exists in my friends.
