Artemis Fowl:
The Moon Rose
The sun rose bright that day. There were no warning signs, no indication of impeding doom. Not even Artemis Fowl, certified genius and criminal mastermind could have guessed that his world was about to come crashing down about his very ears. In a metaphorical way, of course.
Artemis knew something was up the moment he entered the dining hall that morning. For one thing, his mother and father were huddled in a hushed discussion, for another, this discussion ceased as Artemis entered. You don't have to be a genius to figure out who they were talking about.
Artemis allowed them until he finished his eggs before he asked questions.
"What was that all about?" Artemis fixed his gaze on his mother, being that she was more likely to tell him.
"What was what all about, dear?" Angeline Fowl smiled down at Artemis, hoping to end this inquiry. She had no luck however.
" Mother, I am not a child anymore. I wish you would stop treating me like a loud-mouthed prepubescent…" Artemis turned to his father. "Are you going to tell me? Or will I have to find out on my own?"
Artemis Fowl Senior sighed. There was no hiding anything for this lad. He cleared his throat, a sure sign that Artemis Junior was not going to like what was about to be said.
" Well Artemis, it was supposed to be a surprise, but you mother and I have decided that, well, seeing as how you don't go to a real school anymore and you have not got a private tutor… " He started over. " An associate of mine has a daughter who would make a lovely addition to the household…"
Artemis lost track of what his father said after that. A girl! HERE? Of all the nerve! He'd never get his criminal deeds done with another nosy female about the house! Artemis snapped back into reality in time to hear his father say…
" She's arriving this morning by plane, should be here in about twenty minutes. Arty? Are you alright?" His Father inquired gently.
"Of course I'm alright!" Artemis snapped.
