Kauro and Tomoe grew up being best friends.

Play ground

School bells ring

Again

Unfortunately, Tomoe was betrothed when they turned ten.

Rain clouds come to play

And then they met him. He was the most gorgeous thing either girl had ever laid eyes on.

Again

That was when they were sixteen, and by seventeen Tomoe was married. Kauro admitted that she was jealous, just not to Tomoe. Tomoe wrote letters constantly. Kauro replied half-heartedly. They were drifting apart; Kauro could feel it. Then the letters stooped coming. Kauro felt bad and decided to write one last letter. The reply that was returned was not from Tomoe, but from her mother.

Has no one told you she's not breathing?

Kauro couldn't believe it. Tomoe had been bedridden for months until she finally passed away. Apparently the doctors had no idea what was her fatality. She died only three weeks before her eighteenth birthday. Kauro made immediate plans to go to .

Hello

I am your might

She went and paid her respects to Tomoe's parents. There was a surreal essence about everything. Kauro didn't even realize she had made her way outside until she saw him. The reason she withdrew from her best friend since childhood. Himura Kenshin.

Giving you someone to talk to

Hello

She said it oh, so softly. She was surprised he had heard anything at all.

"What?" He asked, sadness staining his face.

"Hello. I'm sorry if I disturbed you," Kauro repeated. Her eyes refused to look at him directly. Guilt and sadness washed over her.

If I smile and don't believe

He smiled softly and shook his head.

"You didn't disturb me. I was just surprised. That's all." He looked up at the tree he was standing under.

Soon I know I'll wake

From this dream

"I-I'm terribly sor-" Kenshin cut her off.

"I know. Every one is," he said softly.

Don't try to fix me I'm not broken

Hello

"I… I just feel so bad. I hardly returned her letters. It's hard to believe she's really gone. She never told me anything." Kauro shook as tears streamed down her face. Kenshin turned to face her slightly.

"So you are Kauro?" he asked as a single tear rolled down his cheek. He quickly brushed it away.

I am the light

Living for you so you can hide

Don't cry

Kauro looked up at him with a steady gaze. She slowly nodded. "I met you… the same day she did." She sniffed and wiped her eyes.

Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping

Kenshin turned away again. "It is hard." Kauro came nearer to him. He continued. "A lot of people think they understand. But their pain isn't as deep." Kauro looked away, a new wave of guilt enveloping her. Kenshin continued again. "But you, you're different. You grew up with her. You know the real pain."

Hello

I'm still here

Kauro looked at Kenshin again, surprised this time. Kenshin went on.

"I just pray to the Kami that we won't be forgotten."

All that's left of yesterday

"I don't think she would allow for anyone to be forgotten," Kauro said, tears trickling down her face once again. She became daring and placed her head gently on Kenshin's back.

"I don't think she would allow you to be forgotten."

Kami-- Gods, in some cases hair. :P

I was trying to remember when I wrote this, and I realized it was after a death in the family occurred. No wonder it turned out sounding corney. But Emo-ness is in now, right? Vote if you would like this continued through a review, please.
