Chapter Two
It wasn't a dark and stormy night. Well, not outside anymore, that is. Inside, the Creatures were waking, stretching their misshapen limbs and grumbling or yawning. Or waking up in the yoga position, inhaling a deep breath. Yes, that would be Deucalion.
Goss-creature sat up, glancing at Deucalion with a puzzled expression, and then turned back. Helsing-creature was not so subtle.
"What are you doing?" he rumbled, waking all the other Creatures.
Deucalion tilted his head toward the voice.
"Meditating," he replied calmly, in the same deep voice.
"What is that?" The voice belonged to New Adam, now sitting up and leaning forward with curiousity. Unfortunately, he fell over forwards, and pushed himself back up again with a very surprised expression, and bits of the carpet clinging to his claws.
Deucalion spoke again, unfazed by the spectacle.
"It is an art I learned in the monastery, in the years after my trials as Victor Frankenstein's first Creation. I do not know how many creatures he has made since, but, as technology has increased significantly since the days of his first Experiment, he has bound to have made many… improvements."
"How…do… you do… med…i…tat…ion?" Karloff-creature, of course.
Deucalion turned his head.
"It is the art of calming oneself, of removing the boundaries of physical existence, of communing with the elements."
Shelley-Creature stood up and cleared his throat.
"I understand this, though I had not heard its name before. When my Creator first made me, I wandered through Nature. Sensations like what you have described came to me. Until the Family." His expression twisted.
"I threw… the flowers… in the lake," croaked Karloff-creature. Somehow that said all else that needed to be said. Karloff-creature can do that, for some reason. The Creatures were quiet for a few seconds, until a voice broke the silence.
"Bir-die."
Most of the Creatures looked towards New Adam, who was prone to saying random things, but New Adam looked up innocently, engaged in tearing up bits of the rug.
They looked around, truly puzzled, even Deucalion, until DeNiro-creature pointed a finger towards the crack in the floor. Something was emerging. Helsing-creature, always ready to help a fellow creature in need, knelt down on the boards and started pulling them up. A ghastly green smoke arose from the floor, and Helsing-creature coughed. The Creatures stared in awe as two figures arose: a tall, slightly round creature that looked like the rest of them except for the bright Lysol blue it appeared to have been dunked in; and a tiny green stub that looked like… a thumb? With a face.
The Creatures looked at each other. The thumb smiled.
"Hi," he said. "My name is Pepper."
And yippee! My heart jumps with glee because guess what – Dean Koontz's second Frankenstein book came out today:-D Yay Deucalion! I've read the first five chapters already…
