Just a Color

A TV might be blue or black

But when you turn it on it's not

There's a whole new world inside

Different than what you've got

A computer might be purple

Its keyboard might be grey

But it might not even work

The CDs might not even play

My friend might be purple

My friend might be black

But she's really no different

Except, well, she's good at track…

Her skin might be darker

Not the color of her heart

Her look is irrelevant

While she stands from us apart

Her skin tone shouldn't matter

It's why she's treated worse

They've even called her bad names

Her color is a curse

Like the computer and the TV

It's just an outer shell

What matters is what's inside

But some can't even tell

That she's an awesome person

Even though she's black

Her skin is just a color

Nothing does she lack

She's got all her manners

And is not violent

She is the sweetest person

Do you really think God meant

For his creations to be treated

In a horrible way like this?

When he gave us our diversity

He didn't mean for us to miss

The gift that He was giving

By granting us our difference

We've suddenly missed

All the benevolence

He's lavished on his people

And treated the races badly

So people with different skin

Are cared for so very sadly…

AN: What I mean about my friend being good at track, it's because she beats everybody else when she's out there racing … I'm totally jealous… just in case you didn't understand that part.
